Perks for the Parents

This 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom architect-designed villa with a pool on the Algarve is a sensational setting for a family stay, with divine gardens, minimalist styling and the area’s best beaches an easy drive away. Combining stylish living with locally sourced and crafted features throughout, the villa is arranged with the main living spaces around the pool and outdoor dining area for easy living at day and night. Sun worshippers will love the roof terrace; not only is this a perfect spot for keeping your tan topped up, it also offers you a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside and carefully designed gardens. By night, the roof terrace is the perfect spot for sunset cocktails or a nightcap under the stars. On cooler evenings, you can light the fire in the upper floor living room and enjoy the views through the large feature window. There are 4 tranquil double bedrooms, all in the same clean minimalist style, with access to the terraces outside. There are several world class golf courses a 10-15-minute drive away.

Why Kids Love it

This stunning villa is great for children over 6 who can swim. Play on the world-famous Algarve beaches together, relax by the pool and spend your trip exploring pretty towns and nature reserves nearby. The kids will love the outdoor shower after a day on the beach. The outdoor living patio with pool is connected to the kitchen with a big pivoting window, so you can watch your children enjoying the pool while cooking or making breakfast. There is a huge shopping mall with a children’s playground 10 minutes away by car; a little further away you can find aqua parks open in the summer, Loulé market for local goodies, and Fonte Benemola where you can walk over stepping stones and little bridges past waterfalls and picnic spots on a walk through a nature reserve. Note that there are a number of ungated, unrailed steps and low walled terraces throughout, and there is easy access to the terraces from all bedrooms.

Accommodation Details

This 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home has multiple patios, terraces and a large courtyard with a semi-enclosed pool. Inside, all the rooms are on the ground level. They include a lounge with a modern fireplace, a fully equipped family kitchen with dining room, while outside there are dining spaces, lounges, and a roof deck. The garden was designed by Lisbon-based landscape gardener Sigmetum, and is filled with seeds collected from the wild by botanical architects and grown in private nurseries.

Style Notes

Contemporary cool. Once an old ruin at the end of a dirt road, this stunning architectural home is nestled among wildflowers and hundreds of olive, almond and cork trees. Designed by the award-winning Pedro Domingos architects, the modern home is dominated by strong lines, white walls and concrete. When the sun is out, it casts beautiful geometric shadows on itself like minimalist paintings. Every line is perfectly juxtaposed, making each nook and corner a visual delight. The interior was designed with local handmade furniture, some Danish design and a lot of local handmade blankets and pottery. Local materials were sourced for the handmade doors, windows and shutters, and natural stone was used for the pool, kitchen counters, sinks and benches.

Algarve, Portugal

Beaches, golf and sunshine

If you like golf, sunshine and beaches, you’ll love the Algarve. Portugal’s sunny spot gets 3,000 hours of sunny blue skies every year and entertains far more sun seekers than that on its highly accessible sandy beaches. For an easy beach break from just about everywhere in Europe, look no further. Beyond the beach, kids love the water slides at Aqualand, boat trips and meeting the monkeys at Zoo de Lagos.
