Perks for the Parents

This 1930s house is on the edge of the Amsterdam Forest, 10km from the heart of the city, and is set up with fabulous design touches and plenty to entertain kids. Built in a Dutch style, it is in a lovely location with a small canal in the front of the house. Just cross the little bridge and you're in the forest. The quiet green neighborhood is only 20 minutes by bike or bus to the magic and lively city centre of Amsterdam with canals, lovely restaurants, boutiques, museums and more to discover. Stylishly decorated, the house is spacious and has full family dining areas inside and out, plus a full kitchen. The Amsterdam Forest has a spa and hammam, plus a gym and open air theatre, and there are a lot of nice restaurants within walking and cycling distance.

Why Kids Love it

The house has plenty of toys and books in Dutch for kids under 10. The most beautiful parks of Amstelveen and Amsterdam are steps away, including the Amsterdam Forest, the Jac. P. Thijssepark and De Braak. In front of the house, there is a small canal; just cross the bridge to discover Amsterdam Forest, where you can take family walks or enjoy facilities for kids, including a goat farm, pancake house, playgrounds, boats, water playgrounds, climbing parks and more. There are opportunities for outdoor activities including horseback riding, water cycling and canoeing in the forest area as well. The owners have a rubber boat which you can take out on the canal as well. Bedrooms include 1 with a twin bed and trundle, and 1 with a bunk bed.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 week. The house is set over 3 floors and has 2 pairs of steep stairs with stair gates. There are 2 steps up to the door of the house. Note that one of the children's bedrooms has a bunk bed, best for those aged 4 and up. Car rental is useful but not essential; there is free parking in front of the house. Public transport to Amsterdam is only a 5-minute walk away and takes you to the south of Amsterdam for the city’s museums and attractions in 15-20 minutes. All rooms have WiFi and cable TV.

About the Location

The residence is in the north of Amstelveen, approximately 20 minutes from Schiphol Airport and 10-15 minutes from central Amsterdam. A quiet and green town just on the southern edge of the city, Amstelveen has an old center with restaurants, around 10 minutes away from the house by bike, and a newer area with high street shops like Zara and H&M a similar distance away. Within a 5-minute walk of the house there is a street with grocery shops and takeaways (Indonesian, French, Italian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese).

Accommodation Details

This 3-floor house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The ground floor has a living room with fireplace and an open kitchen with all the appliances you need. On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bath and double shower. On the second floor, there is a double bedroom with 1 twin bed and trundle bed, and a children's bedroom with a bunk bed suitable for 2 children aged 4 and up. There is also a family bathroom with shower and bath. Outdoor space includes a pretty garden with lounge area, and space to store bikes at the front.

Style Notes

Modern Dutch. This house has been remodelled in a modern style, and is bright and light with elements and colors from nature (light green, north sea blue, wet sand) plus white walls. All rooms have oak wooden floors, and the bathrooms and toilets have natural grey or sand colored tiles. The house is decorated with items connected to the sea found during the owner’s travels all over the world. We love the leafy outdoor terrace, the 1960s-style hanging perspex chair and the peaceful and toy-filled children’s bedrooms.

I'm a mum of two lovely girls, work as an independent creative producer / project manager in advertising and I'm also entrepreneur. I love our beautiful house at the Amsterdam Forest, love the city of Amsterdam and most of all I love our beautiful home island Terschelling. I enjoy being outdoor, preferably at the sea, explore nature's beauty and traveling with my girls and friends.

Amstelveen, Amsterdam

On the edge of the city

This small town, 30 minutes south from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station by tram, is a peaceful place to stay as a family. Amstelveen has playgrounds, local parks for rambling, picnicking and soccer, and a handful of modern art museums. Be sure to check out the Clara Maria Cheese and Clog farm and the local sheep and goat farm in the middle of the Amsterdamse Bos park, ideal with young children.
