I am from New Zealand and live with my Dutch husband and two boys (4 and 8 years) in Amstelveen. We love the cycle friendly city and getting out into the Dutch countryside. The boys are all about wheels, so it is cycling, on the step, skateboarding at the moment. Friesland and Zeeland are our favorate provinces for a local holiday This year we are heading to New Zealand.

Amstelveen, Amsterdam

On the edge of the city

This small town, 30 minutes south from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station by tram, is a peaceful place to stay as a family. Amstelveen has playgrounds, local parks for rambling, picnicking and soccer, and a handful of modern art museums. Be sure to check out the Clara Maria Cheese and Clog farm and the local sheep and goat farm in the middle of the Amsterdamse Bos park, ideal with young children.
