Perks for the Parents

This beautiful and spacious family home is well set up for a family stay and includes design touches, kids toys and a green garden with a playhouse. Located walking or cycling distance from grocery stores, boutiques, playgrounds, museums, parks and canals, it’s well placed for a family stay in the city. There is a full kitchen and a family-sized dining area for easy meals together. A play area next to the kitchen gives the kids somewhere to play while you prepare. Bedrooms are flexible to suit your needs, with extra cribs and travel beds available on request.

Why Kids Love it

There are plenty of toys, mostly wooden Waldorf toys, and lots of books for children under 8 in Dutch and English. The children’s bedrooms are calmly decorated and have black out blinds and curtains so kids can sleep well even in the summer and at nap time. The house is a short walk to different playgrounds. A stroller is provided and a walking bicycle is on offer for toddlers. Traverse the city like a local with the host’s electric cargo bike, which fits 2 kids and a baby, with a Maxi Cosi baby carrier and helmets on request. Three adult bikes are also available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 week (shorter stays may be available on request). There are 2 sets of stairs in the house without stair gates. Doors to the balconies can be locked; unsupervised children should not be on them; one is attached to the master bedroom and dressing room, the other to the children's room with junior bed and the kitchenette. The house is normally home to a cat, away during guest visits. Baby equipment includes 3 high chairs, 3 cribs, a travel crib, a junior bed, a Moses basket for a baby and a baby bath. Many of the city’s key attractions are a short walk or cycle away. A 5-minute walk takes you to trams that run to the canals; 15-minutes’ walk takes you to the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and Van Gogh Museum, and the shopping street PC Hooftstraat.

About the Location

The residence is in Amsterdam Zuid, one of the most upscale and family-friendly areas of Amsterdam. It has easy access to the city as well as playgrounds and parks including the Beatrixpark and Vondelpark. Beethovenstraat is around the corner, with standard and organic grocery shops, and there are many family-friendly restaurants, a 10 to 15-minute walk away (or just a few minutes by bike). There are 3 playgrounds 5 minutes away, including one in the beautifully quiet Beatrixpark. Schiphol airport is 15-20 minutes by taxi (about €40) and is easily reached by train in 7 minutes into Amsterdam Zuid station. Car rental not necessary: the city’s excellent and reliable public transit system makes getting around by tram simple.

Accommodation Details

This 3-story family home has 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The ground floor has a spacious living room with doors to the dining room and open kitchen. There are 4 rooms and a spacious family bathroom on the first floor: a master bedroom with kingsize bed and ensuite dressing room, a nursery with crib, and a study with a daybed to sleep 1 person. The bathroom has a bathtub. The second floor has 5 rooms: 1 bedroom with a kingsize bed, 1 bedroom with a double sofabed, a spacious children's room with 1 junior bed, a bathroom with toilet, shower and a bath, a small kitchen and a laundry room. There is a toilet on every floor and there is a balcony on the first and second floors. There is a garden with patio, seating, lawn and play house/shed.

Style Notes

Spacious, calm, sophisticated style with a classic touch. There’s plenty of history and style in this wonderful family home, where designer gold-printed bees buzz up the wallpaper in a room overlooking the green garden, and marble kitchen tops and gold taps make the kitchen insta-worthy before you’ve cooked a thing. A play room at the back of the house includes a wooden canal house just like the one you're staying in. We love the row of ceramic Dutch houses above the stove, the wide wall of books in the study, and the simple and beautiful bedrooms with a dash of vintage chic - iron bedsteads in one, wide plank floors in another, and well-chosen geometric wallpaper in the guest bedroom.

We are an active family of five. We love to live in Amsterdam Zuid and to be able to enjoy the energy of the city but also to relax in our home and garden with our kids. Living consciously is our way of life, food wise (organic) as well as environmentally. We have solar panels on our roof to provide our energy and natural wooden toys for the kids.

Amsterdam-Zuid, Amsterdam

Museums, art and shopping

'Het Zuid', the southern half of Amsterdam, includes the Museum District, Vondelpark and both the boho district of De Pijp and the designer stores of P.C. Hoofstraat. It's a great place to be based, with easy access to the city and plenty to do in the world-famous art galleries whether you're 8 months, 8 years, 18 or 80.
