Perks for the Parents

This beautiful former hay barn in the village of Ardez is close to green meadows, ski slopes and a bakery, and includes a Finnish and bio sauna, beautiful kitchen and fabulous private garden with sand box. Surrounded by around 700 sqm of undeveloped land, there are views of the tower of Ardez - and the night sky - from the sauna, and the village is just a short walk away. In the winter, beginner’s ski slopes with a ski lift are close by; in summer, the adjacent green meadows are great for family walks.

Why Kids Love it

This beautiful house is a paradise for kids, with so much space to play and hide, and a large sand box. The village is quiet and set in the beautiful Swiss mountains, close to beginner slopes. Children can go to buy bread and croissants in the bakery, just a few steps away, on their own in the morning. For young children, 2 high chairs, and baby and children’s toys are provided. A screening room in the loft offers the perfect space to chill out with a family film night: the hosts provide a projector and 200 DVDs to choose from.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. The owners have 2 young children and have set up the house for them; stairs are gated. Kids may need supervision on the balconies. Scuol, the next biggest village, is 12 minutes away by train or car, and has all necessary conveniences. Ardez has a very good bakery, a food shop and 2 restaurants. Meat and eggs can be bought from a local farmer. There is a private parking space 100m away from the house.

About the Location

The house is in Ardez, a small village in the east of Switzerland, close to the border with Austria and Italy. It is easily reached by car or train with nearby towns on a train route as well. The nearest international airport is in Innsbruck, just under 2 hours away, while Zurich airport is 2.5 hours away. Car rental is useful but not essential - the train station in Ardez is just 3 minutes away on foot. You can reach everything by train - and it's a scenic route.

Accommodation Details

This barn includes a downstairs ski room with plenty of space to store skis and wet clothes, and a living space on the next floor up with kitchen, lounge and dining area. The upper floor has a movie room with projector and DVD library, and a sauna. There are 2 bedrooms; 1 with a large double bed and space to add 4 further mattresses, and another with a twin bed and trundle that can be made up as a double/fullsize bed as required. Bathrooms have tubs and showers. The house also has a large private garden in front of it with a sandbox.

Style Notes

Modern classic. Il Tablà is a 400-year-old Engadine hay barn, completely refurbished in 2015 and stylishly equipped with understated luxury. Duri Vital, a famous architect from Sent, renovated with much loving care for detail. The owner is a director and designer and created the whole interior design. It is unique, using arven wood which is good for your health and promotes sleep. We love the old hay barn charm, the choice of saunas after a long day on the slopes, and the screening room in the loft, complete with DVD library.

We just returned from three nights at Esther's home and are already planning our next trip. The house is stunning - it is far more beautiful than the already pretty pictures show. Esther is friendly and helpful and responded quickly to all my questions (even once we were there). Our kids are 2 and 4 and, like most kids this age, they are active - the house is huge & this means staying inside when it's bad weather is definitely an option. A yummy bakery is just below the house, we went sledding on the walking paths nearby, and there is a ski-lift for kids that you can see from the sofa.

The Tabla Residence is a unique and beautiful home. Opening up the large barn doors each morning and hearing the cattle bells from the hill in the distance was a personal highlight. The surrounding area is truly idyllic and perfect for exploring on foot or by car. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay again in the future!

Ardez, Switzerland

Unspoilt meadows and fun in the snow

Nestled in the lower Engardin Valley, Ardez is a small village in the mountains, surrounded by fields of wildflowers and dramatic mountains and gorges. Hiking and wildlife watching are popular in the summer, while in winter there is a small ski lift in the village and a larger one in Scuol nearby, plus cross country ski routes, downhill snow-bike run and plenty of ways to enjoy the white stuff.
