Perks for the Parents

This cozy family home sleeps 2 adults plus 1 child and a baby and is in a great location for exploring America’s capital. Head to Lincoln Park for a game of soccer or a picnic, or further downtown for the Lincoln memorial, mall, Smithsonian Air and Space museum and the White House. Close to great public transport links, this property is the ideal base for a memorable family break in a historic and educational city.

Why Kids Love it

There are plenty of books and toys for toddlers along with a bouncer seat and bumbo for infants. The living area has a small kid’s table and play kitchen with toy box, while the kitchen has 2 stools for big kids and a high-chair. Many of the city’s great parks and museums are a short walk away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. The home is on 2 levels, with gated stairs. There is a flight of stairs up to the front door. Street parking is easy and available right outside. Car rental useful but not essential: much of the city is walkable from this destination and there are reliable public transit links nearby.

About the Location

The townhouse is in the H-street corridor area of the city, under 10 minutes’ walk from Capitol Hill. It is close to parks, as well as a library and streetcar (tram). It is also just a short walk to the metro which will take you to all of Washington’s key sites. The airport is under an hour’s drive away, while Lincoln Park is a wonderful place to take the kids.

Accommodation Details

This is a 2-floor, 3-bedroom townhouse with a small backyard patio. The first floor is open plan with a dining room, family room, kid's play area and kitchen. There is also a separate back room, gated off from the kids, comprising bathroom, washer dryer and access to the patio. Upstairs are 3 full-size bedrooms. The master has a queensize bed with space for a pack ‘n’ play. The nursery has a crib, dresser/changing table and rocking chair. The third bedroom has a twin-sized bed with rails for a toddler and a reading corner. There is also a full bathroom with tub.

Style Notes

This home is a mixture of traditional and contemporary, with exposed brick and shiplap walls. The bathroom is small but newly-renovated with 2 shower heads and a tub for little ones. We love the elegant furnishings, sweet children’s bedrooms and easy central location.

Traveling is our absolutely favorite thing to do. We have two young children and we don't let that stop us from seeing the world. At just two years old our oldest has visited Germany, Czech Republic and Austria and is about to embark on a three week trip to New Zealand. Our youngest is just four months old and will take her maiden voyage to New Zealand. We love our neighborhood and our home and look forward to sharing it with other families with small children.

Atlas District, Washington DC

Museums, culture and plenty to do

To the east of downtown, the Atlas District (or H Street District) is known for its arts and entertainment options and is one of the city's liveliest spots for nightlife. Running along the H Street corridor, it features the Atlas Theater along with historic buildings housing boutiques, restaurants and eateries. Take the kids to storytime at the Rosedale Library, Boogie Babes at Eastern Market or the Air and Space Museum, where an Elmo movie is played daily. Locals also recommend playgrounds at Lincoln and Stanton Parks, and the National Museum of the American Indian's play room.
