In addition to a nursery and master bedroom, there is a guest room on the second floor. The house also has a charcoal grill, small fire pit, and patio furniture in the backyard with an outdoor ceiling fan for a cozy night in. Many yoga, barre, and cross-fit studios are available in the area, and a bouldering gym is a 6-minute drive away, with a brewery, juice pressery, and art gallery in the same building. Celebrated restaurants such as Launderette, Pitchfork Pretty, La Barbeque, Juan in a Million, Kemuri Tatsu-Ya, and many others are within a few minutes' walk.

Why Kids Love it

There are many toys and books in this home appropriate for babies and toddlers. There is access to a crib, 2 pack-n-plays, changing table, a high chair, a kid's size table and two chairs, a Mamaroo swing, a glider, a baby gym, infant bath with temperature control, and a jogger stroller all upon request. There is a foam mat play area and a large rug in the living room on the first floor, making the space comfortable for kids, and there is a dedicated nursery for babies/toddlers. The office on the first floor is roomy enough to use as a child's sleeping area as well. The guest bath has 2 sinks and a shower/tub, with access to a baby bath insert as well if needed. A sweet under-the-stairs nook is lovely for quiet play time. Austin children's museum, The Thinkery, is an 8-minute drive to the Mueller neighborhood, where there are many family-friendly walking and biking paths, playgrounds, and restaurants. There are numerous food trucks and a grab-and-go juice bar just 3 blocks away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights, 4 nights for Thanksgiving/Winter Holidays. There is a concrete and wood patio off of the living room with comfortable outdoor lounge furniture and an outdoor fan. The stairs are gated. Children should be supervised on the upper balcony, which can be locked - it is not fully child proof. The panoramic door opens up entirely - the hosts will provide instructions so that you can make the most of the indoor/outdoor living features of this home. There is stained concrete flooring throughout the first level and hardwood floors upstairs. There is keyless entry in the front door and a shady front and back yard to enjoy. There is a home security system that you are welcome to set for peace of mind, though this is a calm, safe, quiet neighborhood. Images by Julie Holder (@julieholderphotography).

About the Location

This home is 2 miles from downtown in a quiet nook of the bustling Holly neighborhood of Central East Austin. Four breweries are within a 10-15 minute walking distance, and the lake path and park are 4 blocks away, with a splash pad and basketball courts a short distance farther. For the adventurous, a trapeze school is 1.5 miles away. The Austin Airport is 10 minutes away; there are 2 weekend farmers markets in the neighborhood, and many public pools nearby. During SXSW and downtown conventions, you'll be a stone's throw away from all the action but tucked away into a quiet neighborhood. Car rental useful but not essential: you can park in the driveway or on the street along the back of the house.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 2-story single family home has an office, open floor plan, and patio with fenced-in front and back yards. The lounge opens to the back yard with sliding doors for an indoor-outdoor feel. All 3 bedrooms are on the second floor; 1 room is set up as a nursery with a crib and daybed, the master has a queen bed plus ensuite walk-in shower and balcony, and the third bedroom has a fullsize bed. Both upstairs bathrooms have double sinks, and the family bathroom has a bathtub. There is a laundry upstairs and a half bath and office downstairs.

Style Notes

Modern farmhouse. This family home is full of natural light and thoughtful finishes. The clean, white kitchen with stainless steel appliances and quartz countertop is a dream to cook in (guests are welcome to use any utensils, appliances, etc), and the open floor plan with a wall-mounted pivoting TV makes for ideal indoor/outdoor living when the bi-fold glass doors are open to the patio. Shiplap throughout the downstairs maintains the modern farmhouse aesthetic and provides a warm, welcoming feel with the mid-century and coastal accents. We love the cozy nooks, the tropical plants and the retro turntable.

Hi! We are Emily and Benji Orlansky. We moved to Austin from Chicago about three years ago and now live here with our young son. We love taking advantage of everything Austin has to offer. Emily works for an interior design firm and Benji works for an email marketing company. We met working together at a summer camp in Mississippi and love to travel (we have an upcoming trip to Italy and Switzerland in the works--our first time traveling overseas with the baby!). We love to cook, watch football (Saints for him, Colts for her), and like to spend as much time outside as possible.

Austin, Texas

The live music capital

Where better to introduce your kids to live music than in Austin, Texas? The summer sees an instrument petting zoo at Childrens Day Art Park, where they can test out some tunes on what they see, all run by Austin Symphony Orchestra, along with open air concerts of all description. Long hot summers are the norm, and the area’s natural hot springs and pools, and the city's sprinkler parks, are the perfect place to cool off. Nature lovers will enjoy peach picking, hiking nature trails and coming across the real live footprints of dinosaurs in creeks. When dusk falls, watch the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge. It’s an alternative take on nightlife, but that’s Austin...
