The beach is right off the back porch of the villa, and beach kit is provided. The hosts also offer board games, videos, a library with periodicals in multiple languages, and a large grassy area for outdoor games. Massage, yoga and more can be arranged.

Why Kids Love it

It’s the shortest stroll to the beach - just a few steps from the back porch - and there is a pool and a large grassy garden. Kick off your flip-flops and stroll down the miles of sandy beach - no one will pester you to buy souvenirs, and the villagers are extremely friendly, smiling and greeting you as they see you. Take the kids to walk around the village and experience its many temples, morning food market and roadside restaurants. The villa itself has plenty of toys, videos, and a library filled with multilingual books, and also includes satellite and cable television, with channels from across the globe. A crib, high chair, and child table settings are available during your stay.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 1 day. Rates are inclusive of full board meal options, but exclusive of a 10% service fee to cover tips and cleaning fees. This is usually payable at the time of arrival along with the 11% government tax. The villa has 24 hour security and onsite parking. There is a staff of 6 working the villa – from the gardener to the 24 hour security to the chef, concierge and room attendants. The pool has a large shallow area, making it great for young children, but note that there is no pool fence. The property is fully accessible for those with physical disabilities. Guests have the use of a car and driver for local transportation needs. Grocery delivery is available. Note that bathrooms are shower only. Some bedrooms may have private access to the garden and pool.

About the Location

The villa is on the north coast of Bali, close to Bondalem. This is an authentic place to experience the Balinese way of life: no endless rows of tourist shops, no night clubs, just blue water, incredible views, peace and quiet. The villa rests on a natural volcanic black sand and pebble beach where local fishermen bring in their day’s catch. You can hire a traditional Balinese fishing boat to head out to sea to enjoy the awe-inspiring sunrise and watch the dolphins. The coral reef is directly outside the private beach entrance and the shallow and calm sea make this an ideal area for snorkeling. An elevated seafront promenade offers leisurely walks along the shore. The village is easy and pleasant to explore; a little further away, the Yeh Mampeh Waterfalls are worth exploring, and the Sea Communities' ecotourism programs offer a chance to give back to the community. Bali’s international airport is a 100km drive away, approximately 3 hours’ drive.

Style Notes

Tropical paradise. Built with an open floor plan and indoor-outdoor living at its heart, this fantastically located villa allows you to take in the beautiful Balinese sea view and enjoy the incredible breezes filled with the scent of tropical flowers. Contemporary and classic Balinese art adorns the walls, while swaying palm trees in the tropical gardens add a dash of paradise. We love the adventurous destination, the thoughtful touches for families and the semi-indoor bathrooms, partly open to the air.

In July 2016, we embarked on a year-long adventure to travel the world with five of our six children in tow. After 26 countries, 8 hotels, 23 Airbnb houses, 1 cruise and a few forgettable hostels, we came upon Bali and fell in love with the northern shore, so much so we decided to make it our home away from home. We considered other great destinations for our ultimate summer home like Marrakesh, Buenos Aires and Tanzania. The right spot had to be laid back, family friendly, respectful to women, inexpensive and include a rich culture. Tropical weather for outdoor living was a must! Northern Bali had all of those in just the right mix. Not until we hit Bali were we able to sink into the lifestyle we were seeking - a simpler life of eat, drink, exercise, rest, rejuvenate. We set out to find the right house. It had to be on the ocean, near great recreation but remote from hectic city life, welcoming for visiting friends and big enough for our kids and grandkids to gather and still spread out. It didn’t take us long to find the perfect place in the village of Bondalem with lovely identical twin houses surrounded by a massive, mature garden. The shore was more amazing than we expected with coral reefs and gentle waves. We spent the last two months of our year abroad in Bali to focus on renovations, install a new pool and grow our team. We knew immediately that we would open our home to others, but we wanted to get it just right. Having recently stayed at all kinds of places, from hostels to The Ritz, we understand what little things make or break an enjoyable stay. For us this meant not just offering breakfast. Our amazing staff will handle the shopping, cooking, dishes, housekeeping and laundry, so you can be present and do what makes you happy. Go for a walk, meditate or even take a nap. We strive to take care of the little details while you are here so you can truly indulge in yourself. So we welcome you to The Mahalani, which means both "Great Year" and "Summer House"! We hope you will join us on the "Island of the Gods". Come, relax, stay awhile. Go out and explore. Do nothing or do everything. It's up to you. We'll help you make it happen. Honestly, we can't wait until you get here. Julie and Tripp THE MAHALANI Bali Oceanfront Villa

Paradise island

This tropical paradise isn’t just for backpackers and honeymooners: imagine what fun your kids could have playing on the beach, spotting colorful birds and jungle bugs in the Balinese jungle and riding elephants on safari. There’s always the beach - great for sandcastles and even better for surfing, if they’re old enough. Browse art and eat in local cafes in Ubud, the center of the island, and pick your way carefully around the floral offerings. Sybaritic treats come in the form of those famous spas, private yoga and meditation lessons and time well spent together.
