Perks for the Parents

An architect-owned and designed residence at the base of the scenic Esmerelda Steps in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood. It sleeps 7. This home has been well designed for family time as well as private moments, with bedrooms on 3 separate levels. Parents will love the steam shower off the primary bedroom, which adds a touch of luxury and respite from the wind and fog in this area. There’s a helpful work space with a built-in space for 2 parents who need to work during their stay, and a kids art space on the ground floor to keep little ones entertained.

Why Kids Love it

Children will love the fun nooks in the play area and the loft sleeping space - they’ll find plenty of books, toys, puzzles and games to delight and entertain. There’s a separate children's bathroom with natural and organic amenities for bathtime and scooters and skateboards are available upon request. The playgrounds and slides in the nearby surrounding areas make outdoor time simple and easy to access and the Bernal Heights neighborhood is ideal for kids: there’s a library and several playgrounds nearby, as well as many kid-friendly restaurants, cafes (grab a ‘kiduccino’ nearby at the coffee shop up the hill) and handy grocery stores.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Safety notes: there are 2 flights of stairs, with gates provided upon request. Radiant flooring throughout the entire property. There is on street parking outside of the house, and on occasion a private garage spot may also be available (please inquire with the hosts).

About the Location

The family oriented neighborhood of Bernal Heights is a delight to discover, with easy access to adjacent areas of Noe Valley and the Mission district (less than 15 minutes on foot). Situated against the Esmerelda steps this property is perfect for quick walks up the steps to the beautifully landscaped, built-in public slides on the hill. Walk to Cortland street for artisanal baked goods and groceries, coffee shops, ramen shops, dumplings and a Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s just 2 blocks from San Francisco's MUNI transit bus, downtown and other tourist attractions. The airport is around 15 minutes by car.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. You’ll find a large kitchen with island seating, sparkling and fresh water on tap, and an 8-person dining table and space adjacent to the indoor-outdoor garden area. The primary bedroom boasts a kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom with a steam shower; the second bedroom has a queensize sofabed and private bathroom. There’s a spacious and bright children's play area and large sleeping loft with 2 single floor beds and third (double) mattress, sleeping up to 4 kids in this space.

Style Notes

The property has light-filled rooms with modern amenities - ideal for modern family living. This property retains its old world charm with all the sophisticated and minor details brought to life by the architect in a 2021 renovation. We love the playful colorful artwork, the enticing covered outdoor BBQ space and the unique children's area.

Bernal Heights, San Francisco

Offbeat charm and stunning views

Shh! Don't tell everyone about Bernal Heights. This urban village on a steep hill on the southern edge of Mission Valley is a great place for families and something of a local secret. It's got a boho air - artists and young families congregate here - and its streets are bustling with cafes, markets and boutiques. Climb to the top of the hill in Bernal Heights park for sensational views.
