Perks for the Parents

This cozy home in the woods is just a few miles from Storm King Arts Center, brunch spots and farmers’ markets, and has space for kids to roam. It is a great place to connect with friends and family and a quiet, secluded space to read, cook, work on a project, take walks and nap. Nearby attractions include premiere outlet shopping at Woodbury Commons, hiking at Harriman State Park, cycling and more. Nearby destinations include Bear Mountain, the quirky arts village Sugar Loaf, and the town of Beacon, known for its DIA art museum. Plenty of bespoke options from private yoga classes, in-house massage, hiking guides, babysitters, housekeepers and chefs can be arranged.

Why Kids Love it

Kids love being able to play in the woods, where they may see deer, squirrels and birds. Wandering around through the paths in the woods, checking out the creek, building a fort is ample entertainment. It is a child-friendly house (although not child-proofed), with a large collection of children’s books and toys, a pack’n’play and a high chair. The local farms and Storm King Arts Center are huge hits with kids (and parents). There is a kids bedroom with a twin beds and a trundle, sleeping up to 2.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. No pets, smoking or parties. You will have to be mindful of your children near the stairs inside and outside the house, and around the brook, as well as check them for ticks if they have been wandering in the forest. The hosts own the house next door and are available to help if needed. There is a Smart TV in the downstairs living room - no cable channels, but access via internet to YouTube, Amazon and Netflix. Several hundred books live here across many genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry and essays. There’s also a basket of old New Yorkers.

About the Location

The residence is in Blooming Grove, 65 miles from New York City and is set on 5 acres beside a brook near the end of a private road in the woods. Nearby there is Storm King Arts Center, Woodbury Commons, Black Rock Forest, the Body Art Yoga Barn and Blooming Hill Farm. Guests coming from the city can opt to drive, or to take the Metro North to Beacon, where Enterprise Cars can meet you with a rental.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom home is set on 5 wooded acres and includes 2 large living rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, with a lounge area and work desk. Two bedrooms have a queen size bed and one has a twin bed and trundle. There are 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. There are chairs by the creek for creek watching.

Style Notes

Cozy, artful and decorated with contemporary art and family antiques. The surroundings are serene, with floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room offering views of the surrounding woods and countryside. The rustic pine paneling and stonework add a traditional, cozy atmosphere. We love the views and the comfort factor.

We had an absolutely wonderful fall weekend away staying at the Willow Creek Residence. The home is very welcoming and accommodated my family of four, along with my sister and her husband, perfectly and with ample privacy for all. The fireplace was gorgeous and cozy and the enclosed front porch area was absolutely relaxing. The location is ideal-just a short drive to Storm King, Woodbury Commons and Blooming Hill Farm. And yet when you are at the house, it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. Lizzie is a wonderful and very accommodating host. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and there are plenty of sheets and towels. Our kids are 6 and 10 and they loved this house. We highly recommend this property and look forward to staying again soon.

We had the best time at the Willow Creek Residence! The home is secluded and cozy, but close to activities and restaurants. The layout and design are perfect for a weekend getaway filled with catching up. The whole group was able to congregate in one space without feeling overcrowded. Lizzie was a wonderful host!. She was flexible and easy to reach, and her home is clean and lovely. Lizzie sent along wonderful recommendations before our stay. We took an aerial yoga class and ate brunch on a farm per her suggestions. Both were delightful! Perfect for families or friends looking to get away!

Lovely cabin in rural upstate New York - a short train ride from the city, but felt like you'd really escaped. Beautiful setting, with the glass-fronted front room surrounded by views of the wood, and deer wandering by earling morning. Amazing day out at the nearby Storm King Art Centre.
