Perks for the Parents

This large family house in the heart of Bordeaux sleeps up to 7 plus a baby and has a garden, play spaces and pretty bedrooms. Set on a small leafy street, the house is quiet and calm, and is walking distance from the city centre, plus 2 major playgrounds and other major attractions. Fun and appealing, it is designed to be lived in and enjoyed. We particularly love the library, the garden, the simply comfy bedrooms, and the outside dining area for morning coffee and crepes. When the sun hits - which it regularly does - this home has an instant holiday vibe.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will be spoilt by the books and toys, great garden and general sense of space. Everything in the kitchen is designed with them in mind - from the bench they can stand on to reach the worktop, to the crockery. The 2 main city parks and playgrounds are 15 minutes’ walk away, while during hot summer months, a paddling pool can be provided. There are 3 scooters which can be borrowed, and little kids will benefit from the small beds and accessible steps to the toilet and sink. A changing table, high chair, trampoline and stair gate are also offered.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. You can park outside the front, but, as across the whole of Bordeaux, parking is charged for, except on weekends. The internal stairs are made from stone and only have a stair gate at the top, not the bottom, so toddlers need to be supervised. The garden at the back of the house is completely enclosed. A French-speaking cleaner and babysitter can be provided. Car rental useful but not essential: the city center is walking distance from the property.

About the Location

The house is in the quiet Downtown neighborhood of Bordeaux, where pretty stone walls burst with wisteria and jasmine. It is a 15-minute stroll to the city centre. Within a 5-minute walk, there is a bakery, butchers, grocers, cheese maker and oyster stall. On Sunday mornings, there is a small local farmers’ market at the Palace Square Galien (10 minutes’ walk). It’s a 1 hour drive to the famous Bassin d'Arcachon; Bordeaux-Mérignac airport is a 25-minute drive away.

Accommodation Details

The residence is across 2 main floors with a laundry area in the basement. The ground floor has an open plan living area, overlooking the terrace and garden. The first floor has 3 bedrooms: a master bedroom with a shower room ensuite, a children's room with a bunk bed plus children’s ensuite with tub, and another child’s room, with a trundle bed or 2 beds. This room has access to a south-facing terrace. There is a toilet with hand basin on each floor. In the basement, there is a laundry area and wood supply for the fireplace.

Style Notes

Bright, light and joyful. The rooms are mainly white, with some strong colour touches in the staircase and kitchen. The entry hall boasts magnificent stone stairs. Guests are welcome to pick the herbs, tomatoes and raspberries in the garden. There are some vintage furnishings, but most things are tried and tested child proof. We love the brightly-colored bunting, the shutters on the windows and the playful kids rooms.

Bordeaux, South of France

Treasure hunts, safari treks and wine

Beautiful Bordeaux is much admired for its wine and thankfully its vineyards are well set up for families with plenty of options to entertain the kids while you test the city’s famous grape juice, including iPod tours and treasure hunts, hands-on blending sessions and safari treks spotting local wildlife amid the vines. In the city itself, there are so many places to play, from skateparks and riverside sports facilities to cycle paths and the Miroir d’Eau, a reflective pool opposite the Place de la Bourse.
