Perks for the Parents

This 18th century Cornish Cob cottage in the very picturesque village of Marhamchurch sleeping up to 5 is a real one-off. Lovingly looked after by a creative family, it has cozy nooks, undulating walls, a kitchen garden and a wood-burning stove. Full of charm, sofas invite you to sprawl out and relax, and the kitchen table is made for a family game of Monopoly. Stay here to explore North Cornwall's beaches, smugglers’ coves and pretty fishing villages: Tintagel castle is a 35-minute drive away, and Bude’s 3 great family beaches are 8 minutes away, including one with a semi-natural tidal pool.

Why Kids Love it

Bude is a great location for a family vacation, on the north coast of Cornwall near plenty of beaches and family-friendly attractions. Nearby, there’s Bude’s sea pool, a farmer’s market, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Padstow plus plenty of beaches and the Southwest Coast Path. If it’s raining, cosy up on the sofa or window seat and read, watch DVDs or play with the toys. The house is set up for kids with plenty of toys and kid-friendly places to stay. A travel crib, which fits in any bedroom, and a wooden Kiddicouture high chair with insert for younger babies are available on request.

Things to Know

There is a standard 7 night minimum stay (Saturday-Saturday), however the host may at times accept shorter stays. Please contact the host for further details. Cornwall is a great destination for all seasons. There is no dishwasher or microwave. There are no stair gates; a fire guard is provided. There are some open steps at the corner of the garden but the lawn area is enclosed. Car rental is strongly recommended; Cornwall's public transport system can be patchy. Off road parking available for 1 car.

About the Location

The property is in the delightful Cornish village of Marhamchurch, which has a local pub, shop and cafe and is 2 miles from Bude. It is just over the border from North Devon, and around 5 hours from London by car. The nearest international airport is Bristol, under 2 hours away by car; Newquay airport (with London connections) is 1 hour away. Bude has no train station – if you are coming by public transport (not recommended), take the train to Exeter St Davids station, then catch the bus.

Accommodation Details

This cottage has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and is set over 2 levels. On the ground floor there is a living room and a kitchen with dining area. The enclosed garden includes a garden office with heating, electricity, superfast broadband, and a desk. Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with double bed, second bedroom with 2 twin beds, and third bedroom with single bed. The bathroom has a roll top claw foot bath and a power shower. In addition to the back garden, there is a front garden where you can pick herbs together, play on the lawn or relax in the hammock.

Style Notes

Modern rustic. The style is everything here: all reclaimed items, a traditional colour scheme and unique vintage finds. With a nod to the nearby seaside, a wall has a (toy) stuffed walrus head, and other areas are brightened by seashell ornaments and an octopus cushion. The lovely farmhouse table and kitchen beg you to cook a home-cooked family meal from local goodies. The kitchen with slate flagstone floor, beamed ceiling, Smeg fridge and Belfast sink. We love the cool whites and grays of the lounge and bedrooms, coupled with dashes of vibrant color in the quilts, toys and rugs.

We loved this place! The style was glorious and it had everything we needed including sharp knives and all the kitchen gear I love! Lots of space for all of us when the rain came and the bonus of a productive veg patch to help ourselves too was a real delight! Inspiration for our own home. Love the area... Bude is getting pretty cool and the beaches are awesome!! Thanks guys for the best week!

This was a lovely stay, despite the wet weather we enjoyed the Hobbacott lane residence so much. The kids loved the toys and their cute room, they spend lots of tim in the garden and I'm afraid ate all the carrots they harvested !

The Hobbacott Lane Residence was a lovely property and we very much enjoyed staying there. The local tips/suggestions and "house manual" left by the hosts were extremely useful and we found their dining suggestions to be very accurate! The home itself is quite pleasant and the toys and books inside were a delight for our young daughter. Highly recommended. Just a note for parents with young children: the heated towel bar in the bathroom cannot be adjusted or turned off, and it's *extremely* hot. The stairs are also quite steep and the single bathroom is upstairs, so you may need to be prepared to do a lot of carrying/escorting your child(ren) up and down - especially if you happen to be in the middle of potty training as we were!

We had a perfect stay at the Hobbacott Lane Residence. The house was beautiful, impeccably decorated and relaxing. Our hosts were really lovely and helpful - they left suggestions for days out and let us pick as much fruit from the garden as we wanted. The kitchen was really well equipped, loved the enormous cooker. Beds were incredibly comfortable with lovely Egyptian cotton sheets. The children had a fantastic time (great collection of kids' books) - we were all very, very sad to leave.

It was a great pleasure and joy to stay in this lovely home. We felt very comfortable. The garden is a dream. The house is bright, friendly, unique. Were it not so far from our home, we would constantly come. Thank you Rebecca that you share your amazing home with us. Love Wiebke from Northern Germany

Bude, Cornwall

Sandy beaches, a tidal pool and The Big Sheep

This North Cornwall town just over the Devon border has two sandy beaches, a romantic tidal pool tucked into the cliffs, playgrounds and riverside walks made for wildlife spotters. It’s a fantastic place for a family holiday - and if it rains, The Big Sheep, a local family theme park, has a great indoor play area.
