There’s plenty of outdoor space and the beautiful, large, lawn has soccer nets when they need to run around. Kids can explore the treehouse in the woods and spot the chickens wandering around outside. They’ll have their own dedicated bedroom too, plus lots of toys to use during their stay. When they’re ready to hit the beach, there are surf boards and body-boards to borrow and the hosts can also arrange surf lessons on request. For parents with babies and toddlers, there are 2 cribs available (with 1 mattress) plus a bottle sterilizer, high chair, stair gates and a baby monitor if required.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, set over 2 floors. The 2 bedrooms are both on the ground floor; 1 is a double and the other has 2 single beds, both made up with Egyptian cotton sheets. The large bathroom has a shower and bathtub. The lounge is on the upper level, open plan to the kitchen and leading to a deck and the garden, with great views of the countryside. (Access to the garden is only from the upper floor.)

Style Notes

Contemporary barn. The residence was designed by award-winning architects Feildon Fowles and is contemporary, colorful and bright - the perfect place for a family retreat in the English countryside. The decor is fun and fresh, with patterned wallpaper, Orla Kiely cushions, bright striped deckchairs in the garden and exposed beams. While it’s very light and airy, there are blackout blinds for those who need to sleep (great for little ones) and there are lots of cozy textures and textiles to make it feel warm and inviting. We love the exposed beams in the living area, the modern wood burner and the bold green paneling in the bathroom.

We moved to Devon from London nine years ago to follow our dream and bring up our family by the seaside. It was a bit of a leap of faith but our boys, now 14 and 12 are avid surfers and we wouldn't change it for the world. Renovating Venn Farm, where we live, has been a labour of love. We now have three properties that we rent out for holidays, The Cob, The Red Barn and our latest edition Escallonia Cottage.

Bude, Cornwall

Sandy beaches, a tidal pool and The Big Sheep

This North Cornwall town just over the Devon border has two sandy beaches, a romantic tidal pool tucked into the cliffs, playgrounds and riverside walks made for wildlife spotters. It’s a fantastic place for a family holiday - and if it rains, The Big Sheep, a local family theme park, has a great indoor play area.
