Perks for the Parents

This basement apartment, steps from Potomac Avenue, is a short metro ride from the National Mall and includes plenty for young children and babies. For parents, there is a collection of recent bestsellers and a top of the line Nespresso machine. The apartment is 3 blocks from the Potomac Avenue metro station, and a 10-minute walk to all the amenities at Eastern Market, such as restaurants, coffee shops, and playgrounds. A quick hop on the metro and you can be on the National Mall to enjoy all that Washington has to offer.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment is ideal for young children or babies, with fun toys and books to engage your curious little ones and space to play in the large living room. It is walking distance to several playgrounds and many young children live on this relatively quiet city block. The apartment is set up for a family with kids, including all the necessities you'd need from cribs to toys to a baby bath. A travel crib can be added for further guests and other supplies for children can be arranged, e.g., stroller, push car, etc.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The apartment is on the basement level and is on 1 story with no stairs. On street parking is plentiful and a visitor parking pass is available if needed. WiFi, washer/dryer and air conditioning included. You may hear noise from the upstairs residence, including the pitter patter of young children and a dog. Rest assured the noise is generally brief in the morning (between 7-8am) until the children head off to school and activities.

About the Location

We love traveling with our children on domestic and international adventures. We've enjoyed Paris, New York, and Texas, among other places with our two daughters. Our favorite activities to do when we travel are to unearth the best playgrounds and coffee shops. We call Washington D.C. home.

This was a fantastic place to stay with our family. The apartment had everything we needed and the lovely hosts even sourced a high chair for us. The toys and games went down a treat. It’s only a few minutes walk from a metro and a supermarket, so perfect for DC exploring, and the hosts went out of their way to be helpful. Thanks so much for having us!

We enjoyed our stay at the apartment in May. The space is cozy and is larger than I expected. Location of the apartment is also convenient to get to the metro. Erinn was helpful in recommending a couple of restaurants and kid-friendly attractions. As the host lives upstairs with her family, it was quick for them to come downstairs if there is any issue.

We enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the toys and puzzle. It's a bonus that there is a full sized crib. The information about the intermittent footsteps from upstairs is honest, and I'm sure we contributed to the intermittent noise in the building from our 2 young children as well. There is no bedroom which has a close-able door, so this is an open space with 2 sleeping areas, one of which is next to the nook for the crib.

Lovely apartment with everything you need for your little one. The home is cute and bigger than I expected. Metro stop is very close. Beautiful playgrounds are 15 and 20 min walk. Not a lot of natural light but very cozy and comfortable!

Fabulous location - only minutes to a metro station! Erinn was very responsive, organized, and accommodating. The apartment was well laid out with awesome amenities for a family of little ones traveling into town. The two cribs, highchair, toys, books and snacks left by the host were all VERY much appreciated and made our stay so much easier and more enjoyable! If you're a parent you know that good baby gear is what makes life so much easier, but traveling with all that baby gear is a giant pain. So, it was AMAZING to fly into town with just a carry-on bag and our lightweight double stroller and have basically everything else already provided for us at this location. Kitchen was very useable with a good sized fridge/freezer, full-size range, and all the cooking essentials to make whipping up some scrambled eggs in the morning a breeze. In fact, the kitchen was much better stocked than any Marriott hotel kitchen I've ever used. Definitely a great value for the price. Thank you, Erinn, for an enjoyable stay!

Adorably decorated, great location and lots of fun books/toys perfect for our 18 month old. Erin was easy to reach, left snacks for us and made our visit to D.C. Super easy!

We enjoyed a lovely stay in Erinn's apartment with our 1 year old son over a long weekend. Erinn and her family were such gracious hosts, offering us directions, snacks, metro cards, and even going out of their way to get us a high chair to use during the time we visited. There were toys and books that were perfectly suited to a child our son's age, and the apartment was decorated with both whimsy and comfort in mind. The convenience to the (stroller friendly) metro stop was so helpful, and we found ourselves almost wishing we could move in! Thank you Erinn and family!

This is a great basecamp for exploring DC, though we were there for the Women's March. We were 6 in total- 3 adults and 3 kids. Kids camped out in sleeping bags in a lovely nook, while parents were able to stay up and talk before going to sleep. If you have a child in a crib, it's already there for you in a corner behind a curtain-- clearly these hosts have kids! It was super clean, well located, well laid out for a family & 1/2 (what we were this trip). Erin was helpful with all our questions. She offered to stock up for our arrival- milk etc., and they even made us cookies! She picked up travelcards in advance, too, so we didn't need to worry about lines. That said, we easily walked to the capitol in a half an hour or so (we weren't cruising, with young kids and no strollers), but were glad to have the travel cards later that day. The neighborhood has a nice vibe and is easy to get to and from, with restaurants and shops, etc. Erin is super clear in the description about the morning noise above- it's there, it's kids and a dog, and if you mind it, don't stay here. But our kids were awake as well and it only meant we didn't have to keep shushing them. It is not at all bothersome, we didn't hear them all day--- we were all out and so were they. I would recommend it and happily stay there again!

Capitol Hill DC, Washington DC

DC's largest historic neighborhood is all long avenues, stately paths and pretty row houses. Hit the Eastern Market for food stalls and a weekend flea market, inspire your littles to change the world by visiting to the Capitol and seeing congress in session, and hire bikes and cycle the National Mall.
