Nestled in the heart of the vineyards, this 3 bedroom converted farm building offers a spacious (250 m2) and stylish holiday home ideal for a large family with grandparents or 2 families traveling together. The welcoming farm style kitchen with an open fire place and pizza oven and comfortable lounge overlooking the vineyards are perfect gathering places. Parents can relax and enjoy a glass of wine while their children play in the secure and child friendly grounds. There are endless trails for an early morning jog or for a family walk to an ideal picnic location, all on site. There is also a heated and fenced pool and a tennis court. Château Canet is a working winery and the cellar door is always open to guests who are curious to taste and learn about the wines of the Minervois region of the Languedoc. There is a genuine family atmosphere as the owners live on site with their family. They love to share their passion for wine and their love of the region and offer a ‘concierge’ style service to help you make the most of your holiday.

Why Kids Love it

The Estate is set up with families in mind and there is a plenty of space to run around and feel free. In addition to a tennis court, boules court and fenced-in and heated swimming pool, there is also an outdoor playground with a swing set and sand pit. There is a dedicated playroom for younger children with fancy dress clothes, books, games and more. For older kids there is table tennis and table football. As there are other cottages on site there is a good chance that your children will make new friends. Additional gear for babies and young children including travel cribs, high chairs, baby monitors, stair gates, a paddling pool and children’s dinnerware are all available upon request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights except in July and August when rentals are 7 nights minimum. The cottage can be booked with other properties at The Château Canet to accommodate a larger group. The concierge/reception offers a selection of Château Canet wines and products from the olive grove as well as other local specialities. Babysitting, daily housekeeping and a catering service are all available upon request. The cottages are not air conditioned.

About the Location

Two UNESCO World Heritage sights, the historic city of Carcassonne with its medieval fortress and fairy-tale castle and the Canal de Midi are a 20 minute drive away. Within an hour you can find yourself on a Mediterranean beach exploring picturesque medieval villages, climbing to majestic hill top castles or river rafting in the foothills of the Pyrenees. There are also plenty of child-friendly activities including pony trekking, canoeing, bike rides and water based entertainment at a nearby lake. The closest airport is in Carcassonne, 30 minutes away and serviced by Ryan Air. Toulouse airport is 1.5 hours away and Barcelona airport is a 3 hour drive. Accommodation Details

This tastefully furnished 3 bedroom/3 bathroom cottage has an open-plan fully equipped kitchen with a fireplace, pizza oven and table seating 16. The kitchen has French windows that open out to the private garden on one side and the central courtyard on the other. The kitchen is open to a stylish lounge with a dining table, 3 comfortable sofas, large TV and DVD player and French windows lead out to the garden. On this floor there is also a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom along with a guest bathroom and laundry room. The upper floor has a master bedroom with a double bed and en-suite bathroom. Next to it is a ‘dorm’ style room with 4 single beds and 2 sofa beds and an en-suite bathroom. The property shares grounds with other cottages on the Estate, along with all the amenities the Estate features.

Style Notes

Traditional, light and airy with a touch of the South of France. Bright painted walls and comfortable furnishings make it a welcoming retreat, while the high cathedral style ceiling in the bedrooms and the French wooden shutters throughout add style and elegance. The cottage has exposed wood beams and white walls throughout, with a warm colour scheme and open floor plan. We love the shared spaces within the 280 acres of woods, vineyards, orchards and olive groves on the estate - the large pool, the BBQ area and the play area for children, including the tennis court. The estate was recently featured in a list of the 10 most beautiful wine chateaux in France.

Victoria loves to make people feel “at home on holiday”. She fine-tuned this skill during sixteen years working for the luxury travel company Butterfield & Robinson at their European office in Beaune, France. From tour guide, she rose to become the Director of European Operations, a position she held for over ten years. A Dutch father, a mother from New Zealand and with family spread across the globe Victoria has hospitality in her genes! A childhood spent in Thailand and Spain and an education spanning several continents from England to Canada to Mexico has resulted in her understanding exactly how important it is to feel comfortable in an unfamiliar place. She looks forward to making you feel at home at ‘Chez Canet’.

A wonderful place to stay, and Victoria was so helpful and responsive to our requests (we needed special assistance with our small children but also to manage an urgent administrative issue during our stay - without her help, we would have been in trouble!). Highly recommend this lovely rental.

Wow! From the initial conversations about this trip I had a good feeling. Victoria was so brilliant about the arrangements, answering all my questions and being really helpful with ideas. It was my husbands 40th birthday and she helped to make the trip really special and unique. When we were there the place was beautiful and the house was super clean and stocked with everything we could need. As someone who cooks and self caters all the time, I literally had no complaints! The property is much bigger than it looks online and the kitchen was fabulous. Large and airy, with views across the vineyard, we had a regular spot on the steps watching the moon rise with a glass of their own wine every night! One thing to be aware of is this property overlooks the route to the back of the winery so you do get traffic of sorts in the form of the odd lorry, quad bike and tractor. But for us this was unique and not an issue as we were witnessing life on the winery and the boys loved watching all the vehicles. Playroom, play equipment and tennis courts a huge hit! All in all one of th best self catered places we've ever rented. Also Victoria was a font of knowledge about the local area which was invaluable!!!

Absolutely fabulous long weekend at Chardonnay Cottage. A family weekend with 3 children, aged 3, 6 and 8 - we all had fun! Victoria and team are so helpful and a delight to be with during the stay. We ate nearly all of our meals in the kitchen and enjoyed the down time, from pizzas in the woodfire pizza oven, to steaks on the barbeque and breakfasts with good pastries delivered to our door. All the children were entertained from the pool, the playground, the big grounds, and ping pong table. Our only regret is we stayed 3 nights! Hope to return and stay longer.

Carcassonne, Southwest France

Castles, cobblestones and canals

This fairytale town in southern France is like a medieval pageant come to life, all drawbridges, cobblestones and Disney-esque turrets. Spaghetti-thin streets wind past basilicas covered in gargoyles and ramparts rolling out panoramic views. Watch falconry shows and knights on horseback or splash about at Carcassonne Plage, just outside the city.
