Perks for the Parents

This original wine makers’ cottage is an ideal holiday home for a family with two children. There is a private terrace or balcony for al-fresco dining with your family and parents can relax and enjoy a glass of wine while their children play in the secure and child friendly grounds. There are endless trails for an early morning jog or for a family walk to an ideal picnic location, all on site. There is also a heated and fenced pool and a tennis court. Château Canet is a working winery and the cellar door is always open to guests who are curious to taste and learn about the wines of the Minervois region of the Languedoc. There is a genuine family atmosphere as the owners live on site with their family. They love to share their passion for wine and their love of the region and offer a ‘concierge’ style service to help you make the most of your holiday.

Why Kids Love it

The Estate is set up with families in mind and there is a plenty of space to run around and feel free. In addition to a tennis court, boules court and fenced-in and heated swimming pool, there is also an outdoor playground with a swing set and sand pit. There is a dedicated playroom for younger children with fancy dress clothes, books, games and more. For older kids there is table tennis and table football. As there are other cottages on site there is a good chance that your children will make new friends. Additional gear for babies and young children including travel cribs, high chairs, baby monitors, stair gates, a paddling pool and children’s dinnerware are all available upon request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights except in July and August when rentals are 7 nights minimum. The cottage can be booked with other properties at The Château Canet to accommodate a larger group. The concierge/reception offers a selection of Château Canet wines and products from the olive grove as well as other local specialities. Babysitting, daily housekeeping and a catering service are all available upon request. The cottages are not air conditioned.

About the Location

Château Canet is an excellent base for exploring the region and there is an array of activities nearby to please all ages. Two UNESCO World Heritage sights, the historic city of Carcassonne with its medieval fortress and fairy-tale castle and the Canal de Midi are a 20 minute drive away. Within an hour you can find yourself on a Mediterranean beach exploring picturesque medieval villages, climbing to majestic hill top castles or river rafting in the foothills of the Pyrenees. There are also plenty of child-friendly activities including pony trekking, canoeing, bike rides and water based entertainment at a nearby lake. The closest airport is in Carcassonne, 30 minutes away and serviced by Ryan Air. Toulouse airport is 1.5 hours away and Barcelona airport is a 3 hour drive. Car rental is highly recommended so that you do not miss out on anything the area offers. There is ample parking at the property.

Accommodation Details

On the ground floor is an eat-in kitchen open to the living room that opens onto a private terrace. You can enjoy eating al-fresco and lazing on the 2 sun loungers on the terrace. The upper floor has 2 bedrooms: 1 with a double bed and another with bunk beds and there is a family bathroom with shower/bath. The property shares grounds with other cottages on the Estate, along with all the amenities the Estate features.

Style Notes

Traditional, light and airy with a touch of South France. Bright painted walls and comfortable furniture make it a welcoming retreat. The kitchen is simple, but well equipped and has pretty white tiles; the lounge has pastel pictures on the wall and the master bedroom is soothing with a natural colour palette. The main draw overall is the wonderful estate, with its vineyards, olive groves and pine forests that offer space to play and explore. We love the shared spaces - the large pool, the vineyard trails, the BBQ area and the play area. The estate was recently featured in a list of the 10 most beautiful wine chateaux in France.

Carcassonne, Southwest France

Castles, cobblestones and canals

This fairytale town in southern France is like a medieval pageant come to life, all drawbridges, cobblestones and Disney-esque turrets. Spaghetti-thin streets wind past basilicas covered in gargoyles and ramparts rolling out panoramic views. Watch falconry shows and knights on horseback or splash about at Carcassonne Plage, just outside the city.
