Perks for the Parents

This luxurious cabin in the woods is beautifully set up for a family and has a playroom, a large deck with forest views and 3 acres to explore. Just under 10 miles west of Woodstock and less than a 10 minute drive to Phoenicia, it includes a full kitchen and a family-sized dining area and plenty of upstate charm, in original cabinetry, boho-chic styling and spacious rooms. The size suits a family traveling with a nanny, grandparents or even another family. With an open concept kitchen and family room, the layout is great for a family; the recreation room is a level down from the main floor with bedrooms upstairs, making it easy for parents to put the kids to bed and still hang out in the living room or on the deck.

Why Kids Love it

The home is great for families and kids of all ages. Older kids can explore while babies can crawl around on the grass or the deck (with a parent watching). There are so many family-friendly activities to do in the Catskills for all ages, from walks in the woods and trips to swimming holes to live music, festivals and small towns to visit. The cabin is kitted out for little kids with a booster/high chair for a baby, diaper changing items, toys and books for little kids and some baby toys, plus an umbrella stroller. The hosts also have gates, outlet plugs, a travel crib, a bathroom with a soaking tub, a play kitchen, a large deck outside of the family room, a teepee, and a large yard where the kids can play.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights, 3 night minimum stay on holiday weekends. There is an extra charge of $25 per person above 6 guests. Note that although there are gates for the stairs, there are 2 sets of stairs and parents need to supervise their kids. Some of the drawers and cabinets (including where the cleaning products are stored) have childproof locks but not all of them. Parents need to supervise children in the kitchen area. Little children need to be supervised in the woods. Windows do not have window guards but most are hard for a small child to reach; those in the second bedroom are lower and babies and little children will need supervision if they are open. Kids should also be watched around the fire when lit.

About the Location

The residence is near Mt Tremper in the Catskills, just under 10 miles to the west of Woodstock and less than a 10-minute drive to Phoenicia. There are plenty of family friendly activities nearby, including hiking, playing in the yard and discovering swimming holes. Nearby attractions include Mt Tremper Arts, the Catskill Interpretive Center, and the Zen Mountain Monastery. There are plenty of good restaurants within a few-minutes drive, including the famous Phoenicia Diner. It takes just over 2 hours to reach the house from New York City; the nearest international airports is in Albany, 1 hour and 25 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

This 2-bathroom, 2-bedroom home is set on 3 acres of ground. There is a recreation room on the lower level and the 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms above it, 1 with a kingsize bed and ensuite shower bathroom, the other with 2 twin beds and 2 cribs. The rec room has a queen bed and 2 twin beds set up like daybeds so that the space can be used as an entertainment space. The second bathroom is on the main floor and has a full bath and shower, sink and toilet. The main floor is an open space with a nice-sized kitchen, a new stove and refrigerator, and the living room has 2 couches, a very large dining table, and a fireplace. There are also 2 rocking chairs that look out to the mountains and trees, and 2 kids' chairs. There is a large deck with a grill and dining table.

Style Notes

Modern cabin. You can’t miss the woodland views in this beautiful Catskills cabin. The living area is surrounded by windows that looks out to the Catskill mountains and the surrounding trees and greenery. The home is a country home and is stylish, thoughtful, tidy, and clean. The well-designed kitchen includes white cabinets, a large apron sink, butcher block counters, and bamboo floors. The color palette is neutral but also blends with the surroundings in nature with brighter accents in the throw pillows, blankets, and bedding. There is beautiful blue stone fireplace in the living room for cozy nights in spring, autumn and winter. We love the deck for family dining and wildlife spotting, the sweet play areas for kids and the funky posters and art on the walls.

This home is a wonderful, relaxing retreat for our family. We have two young twin boys who love spending time “upstate” playing in the yard digging up worms and finding frogs, playing in the living room, and just chilling out as a family. We love taking hikes and exploring all that the Catskills has to offer. We welcome you to our home and hope you enjoy your stay.

We had such a wonderful stay at the Carle Road Residence! My 5 year old loved it so much, he cried when we had to leave. The views from the sitting room are stunning and the deck was great for star gazing at night. The house is wonderfully equipped for kids with lots of toys and an adorable kids' room. The place was spotless and so comfortable. Shanna was extremely friendly and gave us some great tips for exploring the surrounding area. Some of our highlights were walking around Cooper Lake and visiting water holes not too far away. We hope to visit again!

We had an excellent stay - great location, enjoyed spending time on the deck, and our kiddos (2 years and 5 months) loved the toys and play kitchen. Perfect layout for a family with little ones.

We loved staying at The Carle Road Residence! My husband and soon to be 3 year old daughter had a fantastic time. She loved the play kitchen and all the wonderful toys and books they had at the house. The deck was also so nice to hang out on and BBQ. Our daughter had a great time dancing and pushing her stroller around. The beds were comfy and the house was spotless. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed going for a wander around their property. It was a lovely visit and we definitely would love to stay in the summer. Shanna was a wonderful, responsive, and very accommodating host! Highly recommend this house!

We had a wonderful stay at Carle Road house over President's Day weekend. We were 2 families (4 adults, 3 boys, 1 toddler) hoping for a comfortable, convenient place near Belleayre Ski Mountain. Not only is the house well situated, but relaxing and accessible, warmly decorated, very clean and well organized and super family friendly. The views from the large windows in the family room are gorgeous. The fire place was a particularly big hit after skiing, for reading/relaxing, roasting marshmallows, and hanging out after the kids went to bed. The boys also enjoyed the tee pee and books, and the child-proof gates and crib came in very handy. We were grateful for the break from the city with our friends in such a lovely, peaceful setting. Shanna and Eric were also great to deal with -- very responsive ahead of our visit. We hope to bring our boys back another time when the weather warms up!

What a wonderful weekend getaway!! Shanna and Eric have a very cozy house with unbelievable mountain and forest views in a great location between Woodstock and Phoenecia. The house was super relaxing, quiet, and peaceful, and even though it was too cold to do much outside we had a great time with our 16-month-old hanging out at the house, enjoying the scenery, and playing with the many, many great kids toys at the house. Our son especially loved hanging out in the teepee and playing in the toy kitchen (which helped us get some time to cook in the real kitchen). They had all the good stuff you need for traveling with a younger child -- two cribs, high chairs, baby gates, etc. It made everything really easy and really fun and we hope to get back soon. Shanna and Eric were communicative and had some good tips for the area (for those that haven't been, there's a lot of great restaurants nearby and nice towns to check out).

The Carle Road Residence was absolutely perfect for our trip. We were 6 adults, one toddler, and one baby, and we had a fantastic stay. Our toddler LOVED all the toys (so much he didn't want to leave!) and the accommodations and sleeping arrangements worked out well for all of us. We had everything we needed and then some. The location was also great for our first trip to the Catskills. We will be considering this property if we decide to return to the area in the future!

Catskills, Hudson Valley

The woods are lovely…

It’s no surprise that artists, musicians and writers have fallen for the Catskills. Around two hours north of New York City, this refuge from urban life is all mountains, deep forests and pretty historical towns, and is the ideal place to introduce your kids to the great outdoors. Start them young at organic farms with tractor rides, corn mazes and fruit to pick, then graduate on to forest walks, tubing, spotting bald eagles from mountain railroads and petting goats in animal sanctuaries. Skiing on Hunter Mountain, horseback riding and splashing at Zoom Flume water park are just a few of the area’s top attractions for families.
