Perks for the Parents

This interior-designed apartment is on the first floor of a school building and has featured in numerous magazines and books. Close to canals and with the benefit of an indoor swing, school has never looked so good! With a beautiful kitchen open to the living area and dining table, the flow suits a family perfectly. Modern design touches include white walls and floors, soft textured throws and rugs and modern art.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment is great for kids aged over 3. The swing in the main living space is a great draw, as is the layout, open plan with everything connected. There is a park with a playground near the house, and after a long day with playing and looking around you can relax in the big bathtub. Taking the tram to reach the heart of the city is a fun way to get around (and it takes 15 minutes).

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. The house has a staircase with open steps, leading to the mezzanine level with office, but it can be gated on request. The apartment is on the first floor of a school building, with 2 stairs up to it. There is no elevator. Guests should take off their shoes when inside. There is a nightly rate of €25 per person up to a maximum of 4 for more than 2 guests. Car hire useful but not essential. There is a private parking space available behind the building.

About the Location

The residence is on the border of the Eastern Dockland and central district of Amsterdam. It takes 15 minutes by tram to reach the heart of the city, and it is easy to visit the countryside from here, play in the park, visit the docklands, and the zoo. The area has gone through a big renovation process and is now filled with nice breakfast and lunch places, a few bars and restaurants (also suitable for children) and a lot of nice shops. It is around 20 minutes by car and 40 minutes by public transit from Amsterdam Schiphol airport.

Accommodation Details

This 2-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom loft includes a children’s bedroom with 2 twin beds and a master bedroom with kingsize bed. There is an open plan main living space with a well equipped kitchen, living room with swing, bathroom with bathtub, shower and washer-dryer. There is also a separate toilet, and a nice balcony.

Style Notes

Modern schoolhouse This clear and bright loft in a converted school was designed by the owner, an interior designer, with a lot of love and care. This is the kind of place you wouldn’t mind staying for extra lessons in: light and bright, but still cozy and warm, it is peppered with eye-catching photography and art, playful items and stylish areas to suit children and adults alike. We love the walk-in wardrobe, the water views and the 4-poster bed.

The Blankenstraat Residence was a phenomenal place to stay in Amsterdam. It was extremely convenient to transportation and within about 20 mins to all of the main visitor attractions. The family went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and prepared for our stay. There were many things included in the apartment that made our stay wonderful.

We had a super stay at this wonderful apartment just before Easter 2018. Stephanie and her husband gave us great advice and a super welcome. The location is good - easy to get to the centre of Amsterdam on public transport, and lots of interesting shops and restaurants nearby. We would love to return again soon. Thanks so much! Martin and family.

We had a wonderful stay at Stephanie's place ! Our daughters of 5 an 8 had so much fun playing with the swing in the living room :) The appartment is spacious and very quiet. Location is not in the city center but it is really simple to reach it by the tramway line 10, and even by foot if you like walking :) We went there by car so we could have visited Edam and Marken which are both 2 charming and typical towns. We definitely recommend it !

Centrum, Amsterdam

Historic and atmospheric

This famous circuit of canals, museums and quirky streets in the heart of old Amsterdam has beautiful 17th century town houses and brightly-painted canal boats. It is historic and atmospheric and a great location for a family stay, being walking distance from Anne Frank House, an organic farmer’s market and the famous Nine Streets shopping district. Even better, there is a café and restaurant on every corner.
