Perks for the Parents

This traditional Charleston condo in the hip downtown Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood is packed with treats for kids, including a sweet bedroom with hanging swing chair, and is close to the city’s restaurants and ice cream parlors. The kitchen is great - inspired by Julia Child, and open to the main living space for sociable cooking. Bedrooms are in the back of the house, with the kitchen and living room in the front, so kiddos can go to bed and not be disturbed in the evening. The house includes all TV channels, internet and a grill in the back patio. Air beds may be available on request.

Why Kids Love it

The house is set up for kids and includes plenty of toys, games, arts and craft supplies. There is a magical kids bedroom with a hanging swing chair, fireplace with exposed brick and toys and books to enthrall younger visitors. The house also has digital cable, a WII, Apple TV with Netflix, HBO and Amazon Prime TV. For younger tots, a high chair and Pack’n’Play are available. The bathroom includes a tub. The town’s kid-friendly restaurants and ice cream parlors are a short walk away. Beaches, including Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach, are under a 30-minute drive away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The house is child-friendly but note there are no baby gates in the house or on the porch. Stairs are a little steep. The house is in downtown Charleston and street traffic can be busy, especially in the late afternoon. There is no off-street parking. Renters will have to park on-street with a parking pass that will be provided at check-in. Car rental useful for this location - particularly for reaching the beach - but much of Charleston is walkable from the house.

About the Location

The residence is in downtown Charleston, SC, walking distance to the town’s best-loved restaurants, many of which are kid friendly. It is also near a Brittlebank park and 3-5 minutes to the Cooper River Bridge so getting to the beach is a breeze. Charleston International Airport is a 15-minute drive away. Note that while a car is useful, traffic and tricky parking make it easier to walk around the city from this location.

Accommodation Details

This traditional Charleston condo has 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms and measures 1154 sq ft. Set over 1 floor, it has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge, and leads to a back patio garden with grill and seating. There is also a front piazza/porch with seating. There is a master bedroom at the back of the house with queensize bed and door to the patio, and a kids bedroom with a fullsize bed and full trundle. The bathroom includes a shower and tub.

Style Notes

Modern classic. This 1890s home has beautiful exposed brickwork and hardwood floors and has been designed by the owner, who works at Fritz Porter, an interior design showroom in Charleston. It has interesting lighting fixtures, custom wall colors, and a big bright living room open to the kitchen, which has a gas range and Julia Child-style decor. The entire place has 9-ft ceilings plus non-working, exposed brick fireplaces in every room.

Charleston, South Carolina

Pastel buildings, cobblestone streets and history around each corner

Beautiful beaches, stunning architecture and genuine dose of southern charm make Charleston a fabulous place to visit with kids. Get your instagram game on point ready for the pastel buildings, cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages, and be sure not to miss dolphins playing in the harbour, The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry (ideal for little kids), and Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began. Ghost tours and pirate tours are a great way to bring the area’s colorful history to life for older kids, when you need a change from a day at the beach.
