Perks for the Parents

This luxurious family home has winning family spaces and a zen garden strung with lights for easy days in the city and relaxing evenings at home. There is a full kitchen and dining area seating 10 plus plentiful bathroom options for a larger group, including an ensuite bathroom for the master bedroom with steam shower and a family bathroom with shower and bath. There is a bedroom on the first floor with an ensuite bathroom and more privacy plus direct access to the garden, ideal for an au pair or grandparents. For a larger multigenerational group, there is plenty of space to be together or apart. The residence is 2 blocks from Cole Valley which has an assortment of stylish kid-friendly restaurants and stores.

Why Kids Love it

The residence is great for all ages and ideal for children over 6 with toys and a location most suitable for this age bracket. The house has a complete playroom with toys and 2 dedicated children’s bedrooms, each with 2 twin beds. A Pack’n’Play is available for younger guests. It is a short walk from 2 local playgrounds, kid-oriented museums, kid friendly-restaurants, public transportation, and 3 bike rental shops. Golden Gate Park is a 5-minute walk away and boasts award-winning art museums, the Academy of Science museum (a winner with kids), the Conservatory of Flowers, paddle boats, a bison paddock, a children's playground and countless walking and biking trails. Easy public transportation makes getting around the city with kids easy and fun.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 days. The home is set over 4 floors and has many flights of ungated steps. The back yard has a fire pit that is controlled by a safety key - it cannot be turned out accidentally. It is however filled with small rocks and glass pieces (a design element) and is not ideal for younger children. We recommend supervision in this area. The playroom toys contain many activities with small pieces - children under 3 may need supervision. The property has a washer/dryer. There is attached indoor parking available for your use. Car rental useful but not essential with great transport links nearby.

About the Location

The residence is in Cole Valley, central San Francisco, approximately 20 minutes from SFO airport and walking distance from Golden Gate Park. Public transport options nearby include a MUNI train line stop 2 blocks away, with the N train and a bus line a block away. There are a good number of nearby attractions to suit families, including museums, galleries and playgrounds, and shops and restaurants within walking distance. Cole Valley is a chic and family friendly section of San Francisco, blocks from the Haight/Ashbury intersection.

Accommodation Details

This 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom house has a central chef’s eat-in kitchen with adjoining family room and computer center on the first floor plus a bedroom with queensize bed, ensuite bathroom and direct garden access. The upper 3 floors include 4 bedrooms (2 with 2 twin beds, 1 with a queensize bed, 1 with 1 twin bed), a family bathroom with shower and bath and a master ensuite bathroom with steam shower. The master bedroom also has a dressing area. There is an attached garage and a zen garden/backyard with fire pit.

Style Notes

Modern Victorian. Dating to 1898, this Victorian home’s turn-of-the-century architecture has been carefully restored with modern functionality including a cutting edge audio system, 3 HD flat panel TVs, stunning light fixtures, hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and 2 gas fireplaces. The mix of modern luxuries with the height and light of a Victorian home neatly blends character and comfort. We love the beautiful fabrics, the orange studded headboards and the soothing Bob Marley quote in the shower.

We loved staying at the Cole Valley residence! This home had everything that we needed and the owners went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful stay. They provided us with detailed information about things to do, restaurant recommendations, etc. Our experience was better than staying in a five star hotel. Everything was as described and we could not have been happier with our stay!

Cole Valley, San Francisco

Tree-lined streets and a flock of parrots

Just to the southeast of Golden Gate Park, Cole Valley is a small friendly, family-oriented neighborhood of tree-lined streets, community-focused locals and independent stores. For dramatic city views, climb Tank Hill; walk streets early in the morning for the best chance of spotting the local flock of parrots, and play your hearts out in Golden Gate Park, replete with museums, playgrounds, lakes, botanical gardens and so much more.
