This recently renovated 200 year old cottage built of beautiful local stone sleeps up to 8. Nestled in the heart of a pretty rural Somerset village next to the church and overlooking the village pond, the cottage is cozy and filled with character. Contemporary design touches contrast beautifully with restored original features, with interesting vintage finds and artwork displayed throughout. The bistro-style kitchen has white metro tiles and a reclaimed terracotta herringbone design floor, and there are three bright and airy bedrooms upstairs. The owners also own Ring O Bells, the family-friendly pub in the village, which offers a locally-sourced seasonal menu and a private garden. Ring O Bells was proclaimed the best community pub by Alistair Sawday's 2014 guide and received 4 stars from the AA. The residence is an ideal base for families and children of any age to explore Cheddar Gorge, the Wookey Hole caverns, the Weston-Super-Mare seaside resort, and the historic market town of Wells. All the cultural attractions of London are just a stone’s throw away.

We have two children Cosmo 9 and Luna 8. We live in West London Monday to Friday and spend the weekends in Somerset where we've had a place for 10 years. We cazn't wait to move there permanently. We spend most summers in Ibiza, go skiing with the kids when we can, St Foy was a favourite for them, Verbier and Val D'Isere for us. The kids have been to Australia with us in 2010, Thailand in 2012, Marrakech 2011 - these are all places that we love. In fact we first took Cosmo to Thailand when he was just 5 months! I have family in Spain and Netherlands (my father half Dutch and Spanish) so we visit my God parents regularly in Barcelona, my favorite city. Cosmo enjoys skateboarding in his spare time and playing guitar (Jimi Hendrix and Bowie!) and making comics, Luna is baby obsessed and a great dancer and gymnast. Besides looking after the kids, I do a lot of work with the Ring O Bells, the village pub that we bought 4 years ago. I do the social media, organise regular and special events such as our annual Cider & Cheese Fayre and we have lots of bands playing too - Coldplay have played at the pub as well as Duran Duran, Tinie Tempah and even Kylie Minogue! (We of course have lots of great local talent play too) I have a 1965 Mercedes 230 SL, white with dark navy roof, which is my pride and joy (after my husband and kids of course...) I love a project and nothing makes me happier than getting stuck into something new, whether it's designing a new collection, landscaping the garden at the pub, renovating Batch Cottage or coming up with ideas for events. My latest project is the renovation of a local Methodist chapel, which we will be converting into a two bedroom residence, which we'll be renting out as a holiday let, so watch this space! I've joined Kid & Coe because I read an article about you and was immediately interested in your concept of families and travel as that is where my main passion lies. You look for cool places around the world for families, and we like to travel.

- Stunning location and charming cottage - Clean and tidy - Spacious and good heating - Comfortable bed in main bedroom - Play room poorly equipped - Maintenance not as thorough as it could be e.g. many bulbs out around the house. The kitchen bulbs not working actually made it very difficult to prep food, paintwork - kitchen generally had everything but store cupboard essentials would have been very welcome and there were a few things missing e.g a sharp knife - The high chair provided was not fit for purpose and made dining as a family very stressful (the seat would not stay and so someone had to hold this part of the chair throughout the meal to avoid our son falling on to the floor) All in, we had an enjoyable time though - thank you.

Luca is a wonderful and accommodating host with great style! We had everything we needed. We loved the area, the lakes, the meadows, the history, AND had fun at the caves.

Compton Martin, North Somerset

High hedges, lake walks and church bells

This pretty village just south of the Blagdon and Chew Valley lakes showcases the best of rural Somerset, with fine food, local cider, high hedgerows and skies dotted with colorful hot air balloons. Scatter bread at the village duck pond, climb the local hills, listen out for church bells and explore the organic gardens at Holt Farm. Cheddar Gorge, Bath and Bristol are all under 30 minutes away.
