Perks for the Parents

This spacious apartment in the heart of Copenhagen is full of beautiful Scandinavian details and includes a spacious family room, one kids bedroom and a guest room, with a Christiania bike to borrow. Located in a rear building off of one of central Copenhagen’s main streets, it is a quiet spot with lots of natural light. There is an espresso machine in the bar for early mornings, along with locally-made spirits for an evening wind-down. The master bedroom has a king Stearns & Foster mattress for quality sleep; the kids bedroom is on the other side of the hallway for easy and quick access to the kids, and the guest bedroom is off the living room for a little more privacy. The newly renovated bathroom features a free-standing bathtub.

Why Kids Love it

The apartment has plenty of toys (Legos galore) and art supplies, and a big open living room, perfect for movie nights. It is suitable for kids under 7: for younger children, there are 2 high chairs, and a toddler potty in the bathroom. The owners have a kids bike you can borrow, and it is easy to ride to 2 nearby playgrounds, or the park nearby. Alternatively, ferry the kids around in the Christiania bike like a local family. The kids bedroom has a bunk bed, and is filled with books, legos, puzzles and toys to keep the kids entertained. The apartment has a shared courtyard and garden with a small playground and sandbox. Steps away you’ll find a food hall, cafés, shopping and the city’s lakes.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 days. The apartment is on the first floor, with no elevator. It is all on one level with no stairs. It is at the rear and is not directly on the main road. There is no parking; car rental is not recommended with easy public transit and bike routes nearby. There are 3 grocery stores within a 5-minute walk, plus a handful of bakeries, and some great coffee shops, cafés and wine bars. The Meatpacking district, filled with hip restaurants and bars, is just 15 minutes away.

About the Location

The residence is in Vesterbro, central Copenhagen, an area home to lots of boutique design shops and cafés. The apartment is just off Vesterbrogade, with public transport, shops and restaurants just outside the door. The WestMarket food hall is just half a block away. You can't beat this location - Copenhagen Zoo, Søndermarken and Frederiksberg Gardens as well as Tivoli Gardens, are all within a 15-20 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride from the apartment. Copenhagen Kastrup airport is around 25 minutes by taxi or 30 minutes by public transit.

Accommodation Details

This 160 sqm apartment has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, and has access to a large courtyard and garden with playground and sandboxes. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed plus connecting changing room and closet. There is also a kids room with a bunk bed (baby bassinet or crib available on request) and a second bedroom with a queensize bed. The luxurious bathroom has a rain shower and a freestanding bathtub, with a washer/dryer in the hallway. The fully equipped kitchen includes an eat-in nook; there is also a more formal dining room and a large open living room divided into 2 spaces. There are 2 juliet balconies with garden/playground views.

Style Notes

Airy, bright and modern. The apartment is in a small quiet rear building, built in the 1930s, and renovated completely in 2014. Inspired by Scandinavian minimalism, it is still warm and hygge. Stripped oak floorboards, mostly white walls and bright artwork frame the light-filled space. The apartment includes design objects and furniture from local designers, including HAY, Muuto, and FermLiving. We love the playful touches for kids, the cozy dusky pink sofa and the location in the heart of the city with everything you could need on the doorstep.

We're two digital designers and parents to two active boys, a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We love to cook and entertain, explore new cities and run around town with our little boys. We have lived all over the globe from Kuala Lumpur to San Francisco, Barcelona to NYC, and most recently, call Copenhagen our new home.

We had such a fantastic time in Copenhagen, and this gorgeous family home really helped make the holiday. Everything is carefully thought about. The location is fantastic. Luisa left a fully stocked fridge, and even sorted nappies for us! There are fantastic restaurants thirty seconds away (sushi and Italian style pizza and a large indoor street food market across the road) and it's an easy hop to and from the airport in a taxi. We came away from here full of ideas to make our own home more cozy and conducive to a happy life with two young children. I would wholly recommend the residence, and would happily stay here again when we return to Copenhagen.

We could not have had a better stay than in Luisa's apartment. This apartment absolutely exceeded expectations - it is the last word in style and elegance but is absolutely family friendly and stocked full of toys which delighted our pre-schoolers. Our children also absolutely loved playing in the sandpit in the communal garden. The apartment itself is stunning and Luisa very kindly stocked the fridge etc with basics for our arrival, and left us a bottle of wine (much appreciated) along with some helpful recommendations on local eateries. The location was also fantastic and within easy walking distance of Tivoli and the city centre. A wonderful family holiday, greatly enhanced by wonderful hosts.

Luisa and her family took such great care of us. She contacted us in advance, picked up some groceries and diapers so we didn’t have to go shopping after a long flight, and had wonderful amenities in the house for us and our daughter. The Christiania bike is something we used every day. It was wonderful for getting around town like a local and not having to worry about walking long distances or dealing with transit. The home has a lovely design aesthetic, yet is kid friendly. A great home to unwind in after the kids go to bed. We would come back in a heartbeat if ever in Copenhagen again.

Our stay at the Vesterbrogade Residence was phenomenal. The apartment was beautiful, clean, spacious and comfortable. Our kids (2 and 5) loved all of the toys and books in the kids bedroom. They also took advantage of the play area next the building for some epic games of tag and time in the sandbox. The location of the apartment was great for exploring the city. Everything we wanted to see and do was a 10-20 minute bike ride away. A huge benefit to this rental was the Christiana bike the hosts let us borrow. Exploring the city with our kids would have been much more challenging without it. Lastly, our host, Luisa was great to work with. We had to modify the dates of our stay twice. In both instances she was able to accommodate our needs. Her constant refrain throughout our communication was, "don't stress." Thanks to her we didn't. She also provided us with a great guide to Copenhagen the city at large and our immediate neighborhood. Still thinking about one of her bakery recommendations (Brød). So good! Can't say enough about how great our experience was at this residence. Thanks you, Luisa. Thank you, Kid & Coe.

The Little Mermaid to the Big Dipper

Copenhagen is the perfect-sized city to explore with a young family. Borrow a cargo bike and freewheel around town, exploring bakeries, the Tivoli funfair and the city’s historic streets. Give the Little Mermaid a wave from a boat tour and make sure you visit some of the city’s fantastic museums - including its excellent zoo. Fun fact: Lego was created nearby.
