Perks for the Parents

This 1790s Federal Manor with a pool is surrounded by 14 acres of land and offers activity options including art classes for kids to tailored yoga sessions. Run by a yoga teacher and ayurvedic practitioner, and her husband, a ceramic artist and former language teacher, you could be enjoying a tailored yoga class suitable for any level from kids to grandparents, or enjoying a fun art project as a family, all in a beautiful countryside setting. The kitchen is fully equipped for passionate cooks, with a professional Viking stove, fridge and dishwasher, plus cooking machines and tools. Windows face the pond so when you are chopping you might spy a blue heron or hawks circling in mid air. In summer, eat in the shadow of the 250-year-old maple treat in front of the house, then swim in the pond to cool off. Extra treats bookable with the host include a cleaning service, personal chef and massages.

Why Kids Love it

The grounds are huge and ideal for outdoor kids. There is a special playroom with toys for all ages. The library is filled with children books in English, German and French. There is a ping pong table, basketball hoop and a fresh water swimming pond with a canoe. The Catskill Valley Pool in Athens, nearby, is also great for swimming. Families can use the Coxsackie public tennis courts, try a round of mini golf, test the 26 ice cream flavors at Tom’s or take in a movie at the nearby Drive-in theatre.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. Note that there is limited babyproofing. There are no stair gates and there is unrestricted access to the pond at the back of the house - young children may need to be watched. There is a supermarket, gas station, pharmacy, pizza restaurant, farm shop and wine shop nearby. The residence has a flatscreen TV with a Netflix account. The library has books about all the historic places in the Hudson Valley. The property is open for weddings and retreats. Consult the host for details on extra services, including cleaning, ceramic classes, massages, a personal chef and yoga.

About the Location

The residence is in West Coxsackie, New York State, in an idyllic countryside setting close to horseback riding farms, historic houses, rivers and towns fit for antiquing. Style Notes

Old world elegance meets new world charm in this classic 1790s federal style manor house, filled with a mixture of European and American antiques. It is comfortable, luxurious and very welcoming. We love the grandeur of the house, the antelope head in the kitchen and the cute modern sheep. Chocolate leather sofas set around the fire are luxurious and comfortable and the black grand piano is upscale and elegant.

We wanted to make our home feel like a retreat. Comfortable, luxurious and very welcoming. After a busy day full of activities, we crave for space and tranquility. Our place gives you room to breathe, to relax your mind and body. Antiques mingle with contemporary pieces resulting in a melting pot of styles, which reflect our roots and the time and place we live in. I'm a freelance creative director and yoga teacher and my husband a ceramic artist and art teacher. We divide our time with our 2 children between New York City and our house upstate. Being rooted in visual arts we both share a passion for design and good craftsmanship. You will feel a love for detail in every room you're staying. We hope you enjoy our place as much as we do.
