Perks for the Parents

This sun-drenched villa, just outside Rethymno on the north coast of Crete, has a beautiful pool and fantastic garden for active kids, and is just 2km from the nearest beach. It is well set up for a family stay, with a full kitchen and family-sized dining area in the garden. Parents will really enjoy the jacuzzi tub, from which they can check on their kids splashing in the children’s pool. There is a great outdoor kitchen, and there are views of the sea from the upper balcony.

Why Kids Love it

The villa is suitable for babies and children of all ages. The outdoor space is ideal for kids: a large lawned garden with outdoor playset including swing, seesaw, play tent, playmats, a hammock and a workout area. The villa is also equipped with all the basic necessary baby and children equipment, such as a baby crib, high chair, baby bath, children's dinnerware, changing table, baby monitor and more, available on request.

About the Location

The residence is in the village of Prinos, 15km from Rethymno town between Chania and Heraklion on the north coast of Crete. It is inland with a beach in Skaleta just 2km away. Skaleta also has supermarkets, tavernas, cafés and small shops. Car hire is strongly recommended for exploring the island. The popular beaches and attractions of Rethymno town are 5-20 minutes’ drive away. The village itself is quiet and rural with olive groves and orange trees, mountain and sea views. It is approximately an hour’s drive from Heraklion’s airport and ferry port, transfers are available for an extra fee.

Accommodation Details

This family villa has 5 bedrooms and is arranged over 3 floors. There is a living room, kitchen, bathroom with tub and 2 bedrooms, 1 with double bed, 1 with 2 twin beds (or 1 kingsize bed), on the lower level. The first floor includes a living room, veranda, modern kitchen, bedroom with 2 twin beds and bathroom. The top floor has further bedroom with 2 twin beds and a double bedroom, a balcony with sea views and a bathroom. It has a lawned garden, private pool with kids area, Jacuzzi tub, sun beds and dining area with BBQ and traditional oven. Two cribs can be provided.

Style Notes

Comfortable and welcoming, with a homely atmosphere. The villa is tiled as typical of Greek houses, to keep it cool in scorching summers. Bedrooms are cozy and the lounge is comfortable but this property is all about the outdoor space: a fun-packed area with pool, hot tub and alfresco dining area with outdoor kitchen. We love the play areas, the traditional oven and the hammocks.

We travelled here with my parents, brother, husband and our 2 young daughters. We absolutely loved the garden. It was perfect for our daughters and my brother (who has autism). The swimming pool really needed supervision from one of the adults all the time because there is no gate. We had an excellent home cooked 4 course dinner. Weather was perfect, so we were only inside the house to sleep, otherwise it would have been tight. The inside is not too modern and the double bed downstairs was a bit small. The owners are kind and helpful and the small welcoming gift for our girls was much appreciated. Overall we have enjoyed our stay very much.

Crete, Greek Islands

Ruins, rocky outcrops and rural charm

Off the southern coast of mainland Greece, beautiful Crete is the largest of the islands, packed with rural charm, archeological sites and fabulous mountains - a land where shepherds still tend their flocks wearing traditional dress. Blow the kids’ minds at the enormous Samariá Gorge, tantalize them with tales of ancient civilization, and check out the cave where Zeus was said to have been born.
