Perks for the Parents

This duplex of a Brooklyn townhouse is close to a beautiful neighborhood park with playgrounds, basketball courts, a running track, an open field and tall trees. A quick bus ride or 1-mile walk down the street takes you to Berg'n, the local "Smorgasburg" food and beer hall. For exploring the rest of Brooklyn and Manhattan beyond it, the residence is close to public transit links, being 6 minutes’ walk to the C train and 15 minutes’ walk to the A train and 3 train.

Why Kids Love it

The location couldn’t be better for a family stay in Crown Heights - it is adjacent to the Brooklyn Children’s museum, a Brooklyn borough treasure and cultural institution. The house is normally home to 2 toddlers and a 6-year-old so you can guarantee child-friendly play spaces and more toys than you can imagine. There are 3 kid-friendly dining chairs, a bunk bed, a backyard swing and easy access to local playgrounds, to make a stay with kids even easier.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. This residence is a 3-floor townhouse (plus basement) - note that the garden apartment (ground floor) is occupied by a quiet tenant; the basement is also out of bounds. The garden tenant has separate private entrance. Street parking is available. There is a child safety-gate separating the parlor level and the off-access garden apartment. Access to the property is up a flight of stairs and there are steep ungated stairs inside the house. It is a secure building with private entrances and exits. The backyard is exclusive to this duplex property.

About the Location

The property is in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and this and surrounding blocks are on the historic registry. It is a family-friendly neighborhood with easy access around Brooklyn and Manhattan by bus and/or train. JFK and LGA are each under 30 minutes by car; JFK is also accessible by train. The C train, A train and 3 train are all walkable (6 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively). Amazing Brower park is a 3-minute walk, as is Brooklyn Children's Museum. Berg'n, the incredible 'smorgasburg' and beer hall is 1 mile away.

Accommodation Details

This duplex of a historic Brooklyn brownstone/townhouse has an open floor plan with a kitchen/dining room, a deck off the dining room with gas grill, and a private backyard with swing. There is a half bathroom on this parlor level as well, plus a living room. The upper floor has a master bedroom with kingsize bed, children’s room with 2 toddler beds under a twin loft bed (best for children over 6), and a second children’s room with a twin bed and space for an inflatable mattress. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with tub and shower and the family bathroom also has a tub and shower plus child-friendly potty seats.

Style Notes

Modern and art-filled. The owners of this property are art-collectors, and their home is filled with original photography and paintings (safely out of the reach of kids). Decor includes contemporary upgrades and mid-century modern furniture, with exposed brick walls in bedrooms, and other charming historic details. It is part brownstone, part brick and is on the Brooklyn historic registry. We love the colorful kids stools and the exposed brick wall in the main dining area, the space to play and relax and the super cute kids rocking chair in the living room.

We adore our historic, leafy, diverse Brooklyn neighborhood & 3-story townhome. We've been here for 3 years, and when our 3 kids aren't swinging, digging or splashing in our backyard, they live at the Brooklyn Children's Museum and Brower Park, a 2 minute walk away. We joined Kid&Coe because we love to travel to France in the summertime to visit family, and we know firsthand how much more smooth it feels to land in a kid-friendly home, one which has *just* the right amount of books, toys, and child-sized amenities to make the trip comfortable -- yet still with a minimalist decor and some spacious breathing room so the grown ups can feel calm and truly relax.

Crown Heights, Brooklyn

Bordering Prospect Park and Bed-Stuy in central Brooklyn, Crown Heights has streets of historic brownstones and parks ringing with the sounds of families having fun. Well connected to the rest of the area by public transit, it's an easy place to base yourself in the city. Don't miss the area's key treats - Brooklyn Children's Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Garden - along with Berg'n, a beer/food hall selling everything from pulled pork to burritos.
