Perks for the Parents

File this under ‘unique stays’: a shipping container house in Denver with a playroom, park across the street and plenty of room to run and play with the kids. Owned by a family with kids of various ages, it includes a crib, pack’n’play, high chair and toys, plus bottles and kids utensils if needed. Custom made, the shipping container home is certainly modern and also cozy, with metal walls, concrete floors and 25-foot ceilings in the main family room. Open and bright with walls of windows, it’s a stunning talking-point property for a stay in Denver.

Why Kids Love it

The house is very open with plenty of space to play. Toys and books are provided. There is a play room that doubles as a movie room. The park across the street is quaint, but super fun and has great hills to run up and down plus a basketball court. Toys and games are mainly aimed at the baby/toddler age ranges. There is also a fun backyard to play in (some of it unfinished at time of writing). The location in North Denver makes it easy to visit the mountains and the city without lengthy drives.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Note that this property has an attached apartment with a full time renter. The house has stairs (pictured) that are not gated. Children should be supervised in the utility room. Note that the backyard is not fully enclosed and has a steep driveway: young children will need supervision. Car rental is useful in this location, a short drive from downtown Denver with the mountains and more a mini road trip away. This property has no television.

About the Location

The residence is in a quiet neighborhood called North Denver/Chaffee Park, a 10-15 minute drive north of downtown Denver. There is a great park across the street with an amazing view of the city and the property is a quick drive to the city, the highway (to get to the mountains) and fun neighborhoods with great shopping and food. Denver International Airport is a 30-minute drive away.

Style Notes

Modern classic. This custom shipping container home is 3000 sqft and full of light and new interior design ideas. It has a unique atmosphere, comfort and privacy, with 25 ft ceilings in the great room and touches that feel intimate and cozy. Families looking for a unique experience in Denver will delight in the modern kitchen and custom finishes throughout. We love the silver birch print wallpaper in the nursery bedroom, the red sail covering the main lounge space outside at the back, and the great open plan living space.

Denver, Colorado

Mountains, museums and massive footprints

With the Rockies plus every kind of mountaineering and hiking adventure you could wish for on offer, Denver is a destination for active families. Colorado’s ski slopes are open for business in the winter and for the rest of the year, red canyons and towering rocks beckon for a taste of mountain life. National parks mark out paths where the dinosaurs once roamed, while in the city itself, hipsters sip lattes and head to quirky gallery shows. LoDo - the lower downtown area - is a must visit, with Tattered Cover at its heart, an independent bookstore with afternoon storytimes for kids
