This East Village residence is great for a family with an older child - especially because the area nearby suits those with a rebellious spirit. With room for 6 plus a crib, it is in a great central and stylish location for a family keen to be in the core of the Big Apple.

What we love

  • The restful dusky purple master bedroom
  • A bright simple single bedroom, to which you can add a travel crib if necessary
  • The back bedroom overlooks a garden and is very peaceful
  • The bright spots of detail - an Eames hang it all, graphic patterned cushions, eye-catching art
  • The stylish lounge has sophisticated lighting and is a large space to play and relax after a busy New York day
  • The lounge leads through to a kitchen-diner with blackboard wall and round table seating 4
  • The bathroom (not pictured) has bath and shower
  • A short walk to Tompkins Square Park, near to community gardens and shops and cafes in the neighborhood

Things to know

  • Host can arrange any kids equipment necessary eg high chairs, cots
  • 3 subway lines with a 6-block walk
  • Small area beside the stairs on the ground for a stroller or bike
  • 4th floor walk up (no elevator). Suitable for older kids or infants being carried!
  • No outside space
  • We love the East Village for its buzzy neighborhood feel

We are a family of three, living between London and NYC. We love to travel anywhere warm, and show our daughter new places. We have had a wonderful experience both hosting and renting on Kid & Coe!

Absolutely loved staying at Jen's place in the East Village. The apartment is surprisingly much larger than we had expected, and our family had plenty of room to spread through the various rooms. Everything was spotless clean and very comfortable. We also loved staying in the East Village (first time for us, we had previously stayed in Brooklyn and West Village) - it is the one neighborhood in NYC that still maintains its original 'unpolished' 60s vibe, with great ethnic restaurants to choose from and organic grocery shops to get some essentials and your morning smoothie. Tomkins Square park is just 5m away and by far one of the best parks/playgrounds I've been to in the city. As for Jen, she reached out to make sure everything was ok and was super responsive and friendly at all times. To be completely transparent, the evenings do get a bit noisy, especially on Saturday night, as you are right 'in the middle of it', but nothing that a pair of earplugs cannot take care off, if you're on the sensitive side. Our kids slept like rocks through every firetruck that passed by. :)

Jennifer's apartment was a great base for our two-week holiday. We loved the interesting neighbourhood, easy access to public transport, variety of food options and proximity to the best parts of NYC. The toys were so helpful to have on hand, and we've discovered some excellent books (that I've since ordered) thanks to their collection! The lack of laundry facilities was not an issue; there is a great laundromat a block away (on Avenue A) that I went to while my husband took the kids to Tompkins Square Park across the road. Although 1st Avenue was busy, the bustle didn't bother us -- in fact my 1yo loved watching all the trucks and emergency vehicles from the windows! Thank you Jennifer for a wonderful stay.

We had a fantastic time staying in Jen's 1st Avenue Apartment. The size and location were great for us - at one point we grew to 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 toddlers and all fit! A quick walk to the F or the L linked well to rest of Manhattan and an accessible F station is not far away - one day I easily went uptown with buggy to the zoo. Plenty food shops around and an easy walk to Soho or Washington Square Park / West Village. Plenty of hotels around too - we had a friend staying on Ludlow Street. Jen's tips were excellent and she got right back to me when I had small questions on arrival. The apartment is stylish but also ready for kids. And lived in so you don't feel terrified of making it your own for a while. Importantly, she has cleverly styled it so that once kids are in bed you can reclaim the living space as an adult zone by slipping toys away! We would go back tomorrow if we could.

We had a short but sweet stay at The 1st Avenue Residence and had a perfect time. The apartment is spacious with 3 very decent sized bedrooms, and in a buzzy neighbourhood with lots of great places to eat nearby. It is on the 4th floor of the building with no elevator but this wasn't an issue for us. Brunch at The Waverly Diner (6th & Waverly) was a big hit, as was a bracing stroll along the Brooklyn Bridge to end up in Dumbo followed by pizza at Cecconi's. Jen is a super host - very responsive and was always available if we had any questions. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to going back soon! Thanks Jen :)

We had a great stay on 1st Ave! It's a walk-up so be ready to haul stuff up stairs, but once you're up in the apartment it's lovely and spacious for NY.

This is the third time we have stayed at this property and it really feels like a home away from home. We love the neighborhood (great food options, laundry close to us, easy transportation options, etc) and the apartment is perfect. It is light, spacious and really exactly as described. Can't wait to stay again next summer!

Would definitely stay here again! The neighborhood grew on us after a couple days and is near several affordable restaurants. Great parks located nearby, easy to figure out the subway system, and the place was comfortable and definitely a cool place to hang out with little ones. My two year old really enjoyed the kitchenette play set and the chalk wall. Front bedrooms do have some traffic noise, but we got used to it after a couple nights. No microwave but the toaster oven worked the same. Being on the fourth floor didn't bother us either, but we were walking about six miles in the city every day anyway. NYC isn't for the faint of heart, but this apartment has tons of character, which is what we were looking for.

This apartment is located in the heart of the East Village. It was super comfortable and easy to find. Our three year old was super happy with the kids' room and the toys. The air conditioning was crucial and effective! Jenn was very communicative and helpful - thanks so much!

We had an awesome experience! The place was very cozy, and had a ton of great toys and books for the two kids staying with us to play with. There were a ton of great places to eat nearby as well. Overall, we were so happy we stayed in the 1st Avenue Residence.

The location of the apartment is good, however the smell upon entering the building is terrible due to the trash being kept inside the entry. The locks to the apartment don't work properly which was really frustrating after a four floor walk up with two small children. We were left with one thin tea towel and a very old dishcloth, being that we were staying for 9 days, we went out and bought replacements.

We had a lovely stay in Jen's apartment. The 4th floor walk up was welcomed after all the eating we had been doing around the City! The apartment was great, Jen was easy to communicate with, and our stay was lovely. The East Village is COOL and FUN and I only wished I wasn't on a family trip with our three kids so we could have enjoyed all the fun local bars. ;-)

I recently stayed at Jen's lovely apartment in East Village and can highly recommend it. We where two couples and it was the perfect size. I stay in New York a lot of work and the living space is much bigger than other rentals. It is clean and cozy with all the essentials you need. Picking up the keys and handing them back was such a slick operation it made the trip very easy. The location is ideal for anyone visiting, you are in the heart of the city with some of the best bars, restaurants and shops walking distance from the apartment. A great stay in a great location!

We are a family of four who recently stayed at the 1st Avenue Residence. Jennifer's communication was very prompt and professional. Our check in details were very detailed and it was a easy process to collect the keys. The apartment in on the 4th floor with no lift. We did manage the stairs well with our luggage but it might be difficult for some. The apartment was very spacious and we could feel at home. It would have been nice to have a few extra drawers in the main bedroom to unpack our clothes. There was a hanging rack with plenty of hangers. The bed in the main bedroom is huge and the linen & pillows divine. There is a white noise machine which masks any outside noise. Yes there is some street noise but you have to accept this if you want the location. Close by are many subway lines, great little restaurants, my favourite Whole Foods a few blocks away. There is a laundromat a few doors away which you can put a load on and then go back to the apartment. One the next block is a small supermarket to get supplies. Overall this was a great apartment which l would recommend to my friends. Thank you Jennifer for your hospitality and allowing me to feel like a local for a few days.

This was our second visit to the 1st Avenue Residence, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. We spent some time nearly every day at Tompkins Square Park with our son, and found the subways very convenient for getting all over. There were plenty of Ubers when I didn't want to take the subway. The apartment is spacious, bright and well-equipped. You can find great food just feet from your door, or cook at home in the sunny kitchen.

This was our first time staying with K&C - Generally speaking it was a great experience. Jen was a great host - very responsive to our needs and questions via email and helped us with our stay in NYC with some top tips. The apartment is very cool, our kids loved the kids room! The East Village is a fantastic spot in NYC, lots of fabulous bars, restaurants, shop and cafes - Tompkins Square Park is the perfect way to the start a day of exploring, coffee and bagels whilst the kids play. Two minor negatives, there is no lift - 4 flights of stairs in the summer heat with pushchairs and suitcases wasn't great, also the temperature was a bit of nightmare to control. All in all a great stay and great value for money.

Excellent location to lots of restaurants, shops, subway - great place to stay in Manhattan. Very comfortable, well designed, and well equipped home. On the smaller side for family of 4 but that's expected for NYC, especially the East Village. We really enjoyed our stay.

Jen's place was very clean, comfortable and super stylish and great for a family. Jen was very communicative and made sure she touched base once a while. The place is situated in a nice neighbourhood and easy to reach. Would definitely recommend staying here. Only thing why I do not give a 5 start overall rating is because the living room itself has little daylight access, apart from coming from the adjacent rooms. I would have liked a bit more light. But hey, it's New York so you are out all day anyway. Thanks Jen for a great stay!

We stayed at Jen's lovely apartment in the East Village for a week in April. There were 5 adults and one infant and the set-up was perfect. She provided a pack-n-play and high chair for our baby plus toys and books to keep him entertained, which allowed us to pack light (if that's even possible with an infant!). The apartment is great and is superbly located smack in the middle of the East Village. We were surrounded by food and drinks options, right next to Tompkins Square Park where we spent every morning on the swings with our baby. We would love to stay again and Jen was an EXCELLENT host. She was responsive and helpful with everything we asked. Thank you so much for the wonderful time!!

Great location and nice/big place with everything we needed. It was just hot inside and we couldn't control the heat which I guess is common with old buildings.

This was my first K&C stay and overall it was a great experience. Jen was a great host and very responsive prior to our arrival. The apartment was incredibly spacious and quite comfortable - including the beds! The kitchen is well equipped and I loved that the kids had their own room and toys to play with. The area is amazing with so many food options and my son loved Tompkins park which was very close by. I loved the area and would not hesitate to stay in the this apartment again.

Our family ( 4 children 20,18,15,10) stayed in Jennifer's beautiful apartment for almost the entire month of December. It was fantastic. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with lovely sofas in the loungeroom , a heavenly king and a great kitchen. She was the perfect host welcoming us and making sure we could communicate with her at any time. East village is a great location, vibrant, cosmopolitan, an abundance of restaurants nearby. We had the choice of 3 metro stations nearby which makes accessing the rest of manhattan easy. It is situated within an easy walk to Soho, union square, flatiron, washington square, NYU. I would highly recommend it for a family.

Jennifer is terrific to deal with and her place is great for a family. It's very spacious for New York and while it is a walk up, it is a beautiful apartment, wonderful area (the park and little restaurants are amazing!) and provides you with the true Manhattan experience. I'd highly recommend staying here...

This apartment is exactly as pictured and described. Very spacious, great location, comfortable furnishings, and everything you need for a great stay. We enjoyed neighborhood eateries, as well as taking the train to other areas of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Our almost 4 year old was thrilled with having space to actually play inside. It was a wonderful change from staying in hotels, which we have done for over a decade while traveling to NYC in the summer for a business/pleasure trip. We look forward to coming back next summer!

We had a wonderful stay at Jen's beautiful home. The layout of the apartment was very spacious for city living, the apartment itself was beautifully decorated and clean, and the location can't be beat. Nestled in the heart of the East Village, we had the best NYC has to offer right at our doorstep - wonderful restaurants, Tompkin's Square Park for the kids, and easy accessibility to trains. Jen was a wonderful host! We highly recommend the 1st Avenue Residence.

Wonderful spot!!

East Village, Manhattan

Community gardens, costumed dogs, and punks

The East Village may have been the birthplace of New York’s counterculture but it now has a thriving diaper culture going on too as the birthplace of quite a few little people too. Enjoy bodegas, burritos and ice cream parlors with the kids; explore community gardens, skateboard shops and especially Tompkins Square Park, the location of that costumed dog Hallowe’en party.
