Perks for the Parents

This luminous family apartment is ideal for a family with 2-4 children and is in one of Brooklyn’s most family friendly districts. It is well set up for a family stay with a kitchen that overlooks the rest of the first floor to easily prepare food while keeping kids in sight and entertained. The dining table is big enough for arts and crafts on one side and eating on the other. The kids bedrooms are on the second floor with a master bedroom on the top floor plus ensuite bathroom with radiant floor heating in winter and fresh air from an operable skylight in the summer. There are doors from the kitchen to an outdoor dining area plus a desk/office on the third floor (not pictured).

Why Kids Love it

The home has toys and books galore for children under 10 plus a very usable back garden (not pictured). Each of the children's rooms comes with a comfortable bean bag for settling in with a book. Each bedroom can also be set up with a toddler mattress on the floor to sleep children up to 4 years old comfortably, or a full size air mattress. In the warmer months kids can play in the backyard or head to the park for some time at the playground. Fort Greene Park is close by with playgrounds and tennis courts. The living room has an crafts dresser with diverse supplies for creative kids. Note that we recommend this property for those with children age 5 and over, see below.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. The house is well set up for children, but there are no stair gates so parents will need to be vigilant with small children - the house is laid out on 3 floors. Children should also be supervised on the third floor balcony - the house is not child-proofed and lacks window guards and stair gates. We recommend it for those with children aged 5 and above. For parents interested in a night out, the hosts have several babysitters to recommend who know the house and the area well and are great with kids. Car hire not necessary with great transportation links nearby. Additional air beds available for children. A Tripp Trapp high chair and booster seat are available on request.

About the Location

The house is on a quiet street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, a wonderful family friendly neighborhood about 30 minutes by taxi to JFK airport and a 5-minute walk to all the major subway lines connecting to Manhattan and Brooklyn. Fort Greene has a lovely neighbourhood feel, well set up for families, with Fort Greene Park (Saturday Farmer's Market, 2 playgrounds and tennis courts), an independent bookstore with story hours, and plenty of delicious restaurants. BAM, with its live theatre, dance, and music performances, is 2 blocks away, and Barclays Arena is a 5-minute walk. Everything you need is within walking distance.

Accommodation Details

This 3-story house has a large open-plan space with kitchen, dining area, and living room on the first floor, plus a deck and access to the garden. The second floor has a bathroom and 2 children's bedrooms, each with a twin bed, comfy bean bag chair for lounging, and lots of toys and books. The third floor has a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a den with fold out couch, piano and television, plus desk/office space.

Style Notes

Bright and modern. While the house is in the middle of a dense urban area, it aims to stay connected with nature, from the staircase banister featuring laser-cut shapes traced from the leaves from the large London Plane tree in the backyard to the collection of rocks and shells that decorate the children's rooms. Mostly white with pops of color, stripped pine floors and contemporary furniture, it feels fresh, modern and great for a traveling family.

We are a family of four living in Brooklyn, NY. We have recently finished a gut renovation of our house in the heart of Fort Greene. We welcome guests to enjoy the fruits of our labour, and use our home as a launching pad to explore all the great things our neighbourhood and NYC have to offer. As you enjoy our home, we will be off introducing our children to the joys of travel and exploration.
