This bright and sunny apartment in the up-and-coming Intendente/ Graça area of Lisbon, suits a couple with up to two babies or young children. There are plenty of books, pictures and toys to make everyone feel at home, and a lovely nursery with twin cots and blackout blinds for babies. Wander to Largo do Intendente for a coffee, stock up on local produce at the Mercado de Forno Tijolo and explore the city on vintage tram 28 or take in the views from the Miradouro da Graça. Then relax on the terrace with a glass of wine overlooking the city’s rooftops and Tagus river. We love the bright white walls, polished pine floors, plants and array of interesting photographs.

What we love

  • Spacious, light-filled apartment combining pine-wood floors with red furnishings, indoor plants, framed photographs and ethnic artefacts
  • In multicultural and newly fashionable Intendente, 5 minutes’ walk from picturesque Graça, with its traditional restaurants and fabulous views
  • Nursery with twin cots, toddler’s table and chairs, mobiles, cuddly toys and blackout blinds
  • Uncluttered master bedroom with French windows opening onto a small balcony with pot plants
  • Contemporary bathroom with shower over the tub
  • Modern kitchen with gray-tiled floor, purple splashback and large fridge
  • Hatch and stable doors to a dining area with pine table, chairs and high chairs
  • Sitting room with sofa and shelves stuffed with paperbacks, CDs, children’s books, toys and puzzles
  • Child-safe terrace overlooking the rooftops of Lisbon and the Tagus river
  • A babysitter can be booked on request

Things to know

  • Around 15 minutes’ drive from Lisbon Portela Airport
  • A 5-minute walk to Intendente and Martim Moniz metro stations - the latter is also the end stop on the famous vintage tram 28 route into the old town
  • Car hire not necessary: it’s easy to get around Lisbon on foot and by public transport. Parking is free in this area
  • 2 minutes by public transport to downtown Lisbon
  • On the 1st floor with no elevator
  • All on one story; kids need supervision on or near the balcony but it is child safe
  • Three minutes’ walk to the Mercado de Forno Tijola food market
  • There is no WiFi
  • Intendente is fine to walk around in by day but parts have a seedy side at night: take a taxi or public transport after dark to be on the safe side

Hi! We are a family of three, Virginie, anthropologist, and Mayeul and Milian, two little boys of 5 yo. We live now in Kampala, Uganda after having spent many happy years in Lisbon. We are happy that people come and enjoy this beautiful city and our totally kid-friendly kid-proof flat. We will do our possible to make your stay as great and hassle-free as possible. We have travelled as a family in different countries on different continents and we know how it is important to have a comfy place to relax after having strolled all day long...

We had a great time staying in Virginie's apartment with our 2.5 year old daughter. There are plenty of toys around that kept her happy and occupied, and everything else you could need for travelling with small children is also available in the apartment. It also has a very homely feel about it. The location worked out really well. There is a park with a nice playground close by, the Largo do Intendente has a few nice cafes where you can have coffee and the kids can run around quite safely, the Intendente metro stop is a short walk away, as is the stop for the historic Tram 28. And some of the sights and viewing points can also be reached by foot from the apartment. There also is a Lidl down the road, which made stocking up on supplies very easy and cheap. Lisbon in general, and this part of town in particular, is quite hilly and has lots of narrow cobblestone roads and footpaths. We were glad we left the buggy at home. Instead, we used a carrier when needed, and got around very easily. We would happily return to Lisbon and stay in this apartment again.

We loved our stay at Virginie's place in Lisbon. We enjoyed having our meals out on the balcony, and loved the local area. Everything was in walking distance, with some great places to eat and drink right on the doorstep. The only problem was convincing our son to put aside the excellent toy collection and come outside! We would certainly stay there again.

Me and my 3 year old boy had a lovely stay in a loved family home. Lots of brill toys and spacious balcony and all the things I needed too. Great location in a lively part of Lisbon close to all the sights and easy to get to the beaches. A relaxing stay and we have all fallen in love with Lisbon my little one didn't want to leave (and I could have stayed longer too!). Our host was very helpful and accommodating and made great suggestions. We loved the oceanium :-)

Graça, Lisbon

A historic hillside haven

Perched on one of Lisbon’s many hills, with views of the city’s red rooftops and the Tagus River, Graça is one of the very oldest suburbs and is relatively lesser-visited. With some of the best views of the city, including the Castelo de Sao Jorge from the Miradouro da Graça, along with an open air café and a Baroque church, it is walking distance from most city hotspots and is home to a lot of families.
