Perks for the Parents

This all-inclusive luxury family sailing trip sets sail from Skiathos around the bays and ports of the Sporades Islands for 7 nights, and has a unique kids club. Yachts sail in a fleet of 2 to 4 vessels allowing guests to enjoy the most beautiful archipelagos of the Mediterranean Sea from the comfort of a modern luxury boat while at the same time providing fun and games for the children. Spend your days exploring beautiful beaches unreachable by road, enjoying lunch under designer sunshades on the beach, watching the kids learn to sail in a particularly special kids club, and enjoying the sway of the sea. There is no better way to end the day than by enjoying pre dinner drinks and nibbles served to you by your crew. All the crew members are extremely professional and discrete: they provide a highly attentive level of service when necessary and ‘vanish’ to leave the guests to enjoy the boat and their holiday by themselves when not needed. The standard set up works well for 2 families traveling together (typically with 2 boats, each sleeping 8) or they can offer dedicated departures for smaller families or parents with teens. The trip is all inclusive with meals, daily housekeeping and a chef who prepares meals tailored to guests’ requests. The custom trip has a loose outline, detailed in ‘About the Location’ below. Meals are all included and are Italian in flavor, prepared aboard to your tastes. You will be sent a form for you to specify your tastes and preferences before departure. Children have a special menu designed with them in mind. The professional crew are ready at any time of the day to prepare healthy snacks and drinks on request. Sports equipment provided includes fins, masks and everything needed for snorkeling on every boat, 2 SUP/windsurf boards, 2 sea-scooters, fishing equipment, 3 dinghies with oars for children, Inflatable Bigmouth and Sunnylife water guns, board games, designer sun shades and oversized bean bag pillows.

Why Kids Love it

This is a truly unique family experience on the water. By night, families sleep in the 4-berth yachts, while by day a special kids club is set up on a separate boat where the children have sailing lessons, activities and games under the watchful eye of professional instructors. It is best for those aged 5-14 but it depends on your children; we encourage you to consult with the owners about younger children as there are options to suit them. A jam-packed daily activities programme might include sailing lessons, sport, games, diving competitions, exploring mysterious places, and treasure-hunts, alternated with time to relax, playing board games, figuring out riddles, and telling stories. Cooking lessons with the chef are also available; kids may also enjoy reading and watching films. The whole package is the result of the owners’ experiences of 6 years sailing with young children and is flexible to suit your family’s needs. Beach days on usually deserted stretches of coast are simply a matter of hopping onto the sand from the boat as the crew will be there beforehand and have designer sun shades, drinks and snacks ready for you. Some days will be spent inland or even on treasure hunts. For those with younger children or babies, cabin beds go right to the wall and a barrier can be added. A small hammock can also be installed for babies/toddlers. A traditional crib does not work as it can slide across the floor if the boat inclines. If the instructor feels a child is unable to participate comfortably in an activity involving swimming, swimming aids and buoyancy devices will be provided, or alternative activities may be arranged. Safety notes: certified life jackets, flotation armbands and safety nets on the guardrails of the boats that house children under the age of 5 are all provided.

Things to Know

This trip is all-inclusive and is a fixed 7-night minimum stay - you can choose from a standard set departures dates or tailor-made dedicated departures (for groups with only a few children or teenagers over 18). Rates are set as a per week price and are per boat. A €5000 security deposit is taken on embarking via Visa or Mastercard. Guests will be asked to provide their own credit card at time of pick up to ensure that the vehicle rental contract is in their own name. Rates include: a 7-night stay on a sailing yacht, 6 breakfasts on board, 6 light lunches (on board or on an exclusive beach), 4 dinners (on board or in a tavern), snacks and soft drinks, wine and spirits, daily maid service and boat reorganization, linen/towel change midweek, and port and fuel taxes. Rates also include Transfers to and from Chora Alonissos, children's entertainment, and games and sport equipment. excursion planning and a member of the crew with you throughout the day in Skopelos. Rates do not include rental costs of quads bikes, scooters or car during the excursion in Skopelos. Dinners in Chora Alonissos, Skiathos and the Skopelos islands are not included. Alcohol and spirits are included, subject to moderate consumption. Excluded: air fares, airport transfers, insurance, watersport activities at the center. Standard departures: confirmed with a minimum of 2 yachts booked. There is a maximum fleet size of 3 yachts. All trips leave and return from the same port. Families book per boat; there is a special rate available for groups of 6 or less, making it work for a small family with grandparents. Childcare is available from age 1 and up; the kids club is designed for those aged 5-14 but it can be flexible depending on your children. The staff comprise a cruise director and sailing instructor plus a skipper/captain and hostess/cook on every guest yacht and entertainers/instructors for the Kid’s Club. To ensure guests maximum privacy, there are separate cabins and bathrooms for the crew on each sailing yacht. Dedicated tailor-made departures: a dedicated departure gives more flexibility on dates (availability from May to October) and offers extra privacy and flexibility. With a dedicated departure, guests will have all the same inclusions as a standard departure minus the Kid’s Club (unless there is a request to keep this) and your family will not sail in a flotilla - just a boat. The key elements remain the same, with an all-inclusive formula and boutique hotel-style atmosphere aboard, plus meals, drinks, and alcohol. A member of the crew goes to the local market to pick up fresh ingredients and prepares meals with Italian recipes to provide mouth-wateringly delicious dishes cooked with high quality Italian olive oil and paired with Italian wines. Activities and games for children are hosted by an entertainer/instructor. This is not the same as having a Kid’s Club (where kids have an entire sailboat to themselves during the day with their Kid’s Club staff) and we have reduced equipment available due to storage limitations. However, the hosts can still include some items such as a SUP boards and sea scooters, as well as activities and games during the day, both at sea and on land, led by the experienced crew. This is a good alternative to the Kid’s Club, so that children still have a daily program and entertainment of their own. Dedicated departure bookings will still have hospitality staff and at-sea professionals with Italian flair and style - there will be a 3-person crew: a Skipper, a Hostess who cooks, cleans the boat and carries out general housekeeping services, and a Kids’ Animator who keeps the younger guests of the fleet happy.

About the Location

The sailing route starts in Skiathos and includes a typical route around the Sporades Islands, stopping at little bays, ports and beaches along the way. The nearest airport is Skiathos (JSI); to get there, fly from Athens on 2 daily flights in summer, or fly directly from European hubs including Rome, Milan, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen and Vienna. The transfer time from the airport to the port is 30 minutes and this can be booked and included on request. The big advantage of Greece is that the bays are all very close. Sailing between them is short and easy and there is plenty of open water space, so if the guests find an inlet or particular piece of coast they like, all they have to do is put down the anchor. Rest assured that the team have tried and tested these coastlines many times and have created an itinerary with the best hidden spots. Sample Itinerary Saturday 6pm: Meet and journey down the south coast of Skiathos. First night in the harbour at Sklithri with a beach welcome dinner. Sunday: Visit the uninhabited island of Tsougria and a private beach. Sail on to spend the night in Panormos. Monday: Explore the south coast of Skopelos, sail to the marina at Steni Vala and explore inland. Tuesday: Sail to the deserted island of Peristera, where children have a treasure hunt awaiting them. Enjoy the Alonissos coast in the afternoon and have dinner under the stars in Tzortzi Bay. Wednesday: Sail to Skopelos and explore the island’s bays and villages by scooter, quad bike or car. Thursday: Visit the southern coast of Alonissos, sailing to Limnonari Bay on the southern coast of Skopelos in the afternoon. Friday: Sail to the lively beaches of Skiathos. The final night is in Skiathos port with an evening out. Saturday: Disembark and check out at 9am. For both standard and dedicated departures the hosts have added the Aeolian Route Itinerary with Vulcano Panarea Stromboli, Lipari and Salina - 2021 departure dates are now available on request.

Accommodation Details

The boats have been recently upgraded to premium catamarans. The 2 catamaran options are: a Bali 4.5 or Lagoon 450 and a Lagoon 46 (brand new for Summer 2020). All boats have 4 cabins (each with 1 double bed) and 4 bathrooms with showers. Shared spaces on the boat include a spacious interior dining room/lounge, and an exterior dining area on deck, and space at the front of the boat for sunbathing. The advantage of the catamaran is that the front area is large and equipped suspended hammock style nets to relax in. The boat is equipped with fine linens and bath towels, a hairdryer, bathroom amenities, 1 outdoor shower with hot water, beach towels, large beanbags and a hammock on the bow. It has air conditioning, a 220V generator, Bluetooth audio entertainment, WiFi ( with 3G coverage), and a tender with outboard engine. All guests receive a welcome kit with sarong, raincoat, hat, sunscreen, after-sun cream and Crossing The Sea T-shirts for children. If guests want to sail on a traditional single hulled sailing boat, they can do so on the Kid’s Club which will remain on a sailboat. For any groups requesting a single hulled sailing boat and a catamaran, hosts can provide quotations and availability on request.

Style Notes

Boutique hotel on the water. This unique concept has piqued our interest - how do you create a sailing holiday that works for all the family, no matter the age of kids? The Crossing The Seas team have spent 6 years developing and refining this concept to make it as sensational for parents as it is for children. Everything has been taken care of - from meals to beach towels, cleaning and services - so all you have to do is relax, enjoy the beautiful bays and beaches, and watch your kids have the time of their lives. We love the thoughtful attention to detail, which means that if you forget anything, the staff have it covered, the designer sun shades ready to be set up, and the awesome collection of pool toys and floaties.

Greek Islands, Greece

Surrounded by the clear blue sea

The Greek Islands are a dream holiday destination with kids, the key attraction being their beaches in every color under the sun - red and black on volcanic islands, white and yellow sand on others and shingly and studded with seashells on the rest. Each has its own character, with ancient ruins, mountains, nightlife and glamorous living just some characteristics you might encounter. One thing is a constant: that clear, clear water and calm sea, perfect for swimming. Take your pick from the Cyclades Islands, closest to Athens, the Sporades, to the north, the Ionian Islands to the south and the Dodecanese to the east. Island hopping is a classic way to experience the diversity and beauty of the lot.
