Perks for the Parents

This light and spacious duplex apartment in the lively Oud West area is spacious and cozy at the same time and suits a family of 5 perfectly. Located on a quiet green street close to stores, cafés and various restaurants, everything you could need is just around the corner. Central Amsterdam's museums, parks and shopping areas are just a few tram stops away. Guests also have use of the WiFi, yoga mat and piano.

Why Kids Love it

There are lots of children's toys and dressing up clothes (mostly girls but also boys - age 4-10). There is a lot of space for playing and a large table for the kids at their own height. There are at least 4 playgrounds within walking distance and the Vondelpark is also nearby. The children’s room is decorated with lots of soft colors and has a high sleeper loft bed. A crib, a stroller and a Stokke high chair are available.

Things to Know

The flat is safe and secure on the third and fourth floors (entrance to the apartment is on the second floor). There is no elevator and the stairs are steep, like many in Amsterdam. Entrance doors (both to the street and to our apartment) are locked. The entrance to the balcony is behind locked doors. There are grocery stores nearby. An airbed can be added. Please note that the stairs are steep and toddlers may need supervision

About the Location

In the lively Old West area of the city, much of Amsterdam is just a short tram ride or walk away. The Vondelpark is 2 minutes away, the Museum Quarter is a 10-minute walk and there are shopping streets, cafés, a market, a cinema and a library in the neighborhood. Schiphol airport is 20km away; Amsterdam Zuid, Central Amsterdam and Amsterdam Lelylaan train stations are within a 20 minute drive.

Accommodation Details

Three bedroomed 2-floor apartment (third and fourth floor) with a large open-plan lounge and spacious open eat-in kitchen, plus access to large balcony. There is a master bedroom with a kingsize bed, a large double bedroom with double bed and a children's bedroom with a single loft bed, suitable for all ages. The large bathroom has double sinks, a bath and a rainfall shower.

Style Notes

The residence has a Scandinavian-style look, light and bright with sparkles of color and great art. It matches the style of the house, which is modern with authentic details such as original wooden stairs, a beamed ceiling in the master bedroom and edited ceilings in the living and kitchen area. We love the modern chandelier-style light in the master bedroom.

We stayed at the Brederostraat Residence with two little kids age 2 and 4. It was a perfect child friendly place with lots of toys available. The apartment is very light, yet warm and welcoming with a modern and clean aestethic, very nice curated. The stairs are very steep, but this is part of the "Amsterdam experience". Paula was available throughout all of our stay and quickly responded with friendly tips and advices. The neighbourhood is young, trendy and bustling. A grocery shop is around the corner, a lot of nice cafes and restaurant within reach and a perfect connection via tram to the center, Museumsplein, etc. Overall a perfect home away from home with kind hosts - highly recommendable!

The hosts were very responsive and friendly. Property perfect for our toddler and baby; with toys, high chairs and baby cot and stroller all provided - close to Vondelpark, with easy access to the canals.

The residence was as described, well located and very clean and comfortable. One concern for families with small children are the very steep stairs, however Paula states this in the listing. Paula was very helpful, left us a stroller and extra high chair as well as maps and recommendations for the neighborhood.

We couldn't believe our luck when we arrived at The Brederodestraat Residence. Easy to transfer from the airport, and only 2 tram stops from Leidseplein, the apartment is in a relaxed and arty neighbourhood, with restaurants and shopping on the doorstep. We felt at home immediately thanks to all the careful planning Paula had done to ease our arrival. The apartment is fabulous - spacious, bright and airy - with generous rooms and every convenience you could need travelling as a family. Our children were delighted with all the different toys and the generous space to play. They were also thrilled to find us so close to several neighbourhood playgrounds, and also to Vondelpark just a few blocks away. We packed a lot into our days in the city and it was wonderful to be able to be able to take a quick tram ride and be 'home' again after a few minutes walk from the tram stop. Amsterdam is such a great city for exploring as a family and this apartment is the perfect base to do that from.

Paula and Mark's apartment is an incredible place to stay in Amsterdam. The apartment itself is very tastefully renovated while maintaining its heritage house charms. It boasts all the amenities of a modern flat and has plenty of space for a family. Especially handy are the washing machine and the dryer. And because it's their apartment, the kitchen is fully equipped, which makes it easy to whip up a great meal. There is also a play-kitchen and many toys belonging to their daughter. Our kids loved them. The neighborhood is not only perfectly located next to Vondelpark, and close to the museums. It also is very friendly and welcoming: People greeting each other in the streets, having a chat on the sidewalk kind of thing. So quite the opposite of the cliché Amsterdam (which is nonetheless only 10 minutes away by bike or so). Paula was a perfect host. Everything worked out wonderfully, communication was easy and swift, and she prepared a really helpful map for us with everything on it from groceries to design shops in Oud West (the neighborhood). Not to forget: She set out some orange gear for all of us to celebrate King's Day :-) The only thing to watch out for: As is stated in the description, the stairs up to the apartment and the stairs in the apartment are really steep and do not have any sort of security doors or the like. Also, there is no room to leave a buggy or pram downstairs. You need to carry it up two flights of stairs. It wasn't a problem for us and worked our fine even with our toddler, but I guess it is worth pointing out.

The appartment is great, clean and beautiful, with plenty of toys for the kids. Good location near Vongelpark, we did eveything by walk (just took direct tram downtown a couple times, not even 10 minutes)! Instructions on how to do things and what to do in the neighbourhood where very complete, and we approve Paula's recommanded restaurants 100% ! Paula is very quick in replying emails and questions. Perfect stay in Amsterdam!

Helmersbuurt, Amsterdam

Townhouses and juice cafés

This popular family neighborhood in western Amsterdam is a few blocks from the Vondelpark with some streets right on a canal plus cafés, restaurants and yoga studios nearby. It’s easy to walk or cycle to the center of the city along with the museum quarter, and it is a little more urban and edgy than some of the south Amsterdam districts.
