Perks for the Parents

This colorful and fun-filled 1923 bungalow in northeast Los Angeles is within walking distance to shops, art galleries, bars, and restaurants, and includes plenty for kids. Bright and comfortable, the home is secure and gated, and has a recently remodeled living room, bathroom and kitchen. Comforts include a washer and dryer, an extensive DVD collection, Wii video games and WiFi.

Why Kids Love it

The kids bedroom is bright and cozy and can sleep 2 children in the bunk beds. There are plenty of toys to play with. Kids will love running in the back yard and there is a brand new park only a 5-minute walk away on York Boulevard, with Donut Friend for incredible vegan donuts and Scoops Ice Cream a short walk away. Highland Park is a very family-friendly neighborhood; the closest beach is a 45-minute drive away.

Things to Know

This house has brick stairs in the front and backyard (young children may need a hand) and it has a 2-car garage. The home has a resident cat, Lola, who lives indoor and out. She needs feeding during your stay - the hosts will provide full information prior to your visit. There is a washable slipcover on the couch for kids. The hosts can supply you with a list of kid-friendly fun things to do and eat in the area. Car rental recommended. The house is close to the Gold Line train station that can take you into Downtown Los Angeles in a few minutes or the iconic Santa Monica pier/beach.

About the Location

The residence is in Highland Park, approximately 5 minutes’ walk from York Blvd. This great street has The York, a kid-friendly gastropub, Café de Leche, a popular coffee shop right on the corner and Town Pizza. Kids will love walking 2 blocks to York Park. It is 45 minutes’ drive from the beach and an hour and a half to snow at Lake Arrowhead. Hollywood is 15 minutes away and there are many museums to visit (The Broad, LACMA, the Getty) and plenty of fun things to do; every second Saturday is the monthly NELA Art Walk. The property is a 30-minute drive to LAX.

Style Notes

Sunny and colorful. This 1923 bungalow is bursting with character and charm. Perched in the hills of trendy, northeast Los Angeles, the backyard has mountain/city views, several fruit trees and magnificent sunsets. The exposed rustic wood ceiling is a feature, along with 1970s floral curtains in the kitchen and sassy slogan throw pillows. We love the colorful bedroom walls.

Highland Park , Los Angeles

One of LA's greatest neighborhoods

Just west of Pasadena, this northeast neighborhood is the place to be in the city right now, whether you’re a young family, a hipster or something inbetween. With fantastic Mexican food, monthly gallery nights and a thriving sense of community, it’s a fun place to stay. Check out York Boulevard’s vintage stores, and treat the kids to fro-yo at Oasis Ice Cream.
