Perks for the Parents

This spacious 3-story house has character-packed kids room and the offer of boat tours around the city on an ocean steamer for those booking for a week or more. Set on a child-friendly street with some 15 families, it is close to public transport into town and has bikes available for a true Dutch experience, including a Bakfiets (cargo bike for kids). The Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum at Museum Square are within walking distance.

Why Kids Love it

The space is well set up for kids with 2 bedrooms overflowing with toys, games and books, plus a playroom in the basement. One bedroom has a pink canopy over the bed while the other is surf-themed with a mid-sleeper bed (best for age 5+). The house is close to the Vondelpark which has plenty of great places to play and explore, including an area with a large sandpit and slides, a play garden and a children’s cooking café. Children’s bikes are available for guest use.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. The hosts own a big boat in the old centre on the famous Prinsengracht. It is an old saving sloop from a German ocean steamer dating to 1928 and is ideal for canal tours of Amsterdam. When the boat is not out of order and the weather is good, the hosts can offer a tour with a private captain to those who stay for a week or more. Items for young children including a high chair and travel crib can be provided on request.

About the Location

The house is in the Hoofddorppleinbuurt residential area of southwest Amsterdam. It is a good base for exploring the city and is around 15 minutes from the international airport and 20 minutes’ drive or cycle from Amsterdam Central Station. The Vondelpark is under 5 minutes’ cycle away. It is a quiet and residential neighborhood filled with local families. Note that it is not in the very heart of the city; car rental may be useful to get around, although the owners supply bikes.

Accommodation Details

This 3-story house is 170 sqm and has a spacious living room and open kitchen on the ground floor, plus a bathroom with WC and shower. A transparent gas fireplace borders the kitchen and living room, and there is a conservatory with dining table accessible from the kitchen. The first floor has 2 children’s bedrooms (1 with mid/high sleeper, 1 with twin bed and sofa) plus a master bedroom with full/double bed and balcony, and a bathroom with bathtub and shower. The basement (1.9m tall) houses a playroom/study and has a sofa bed for up to 2 adults, plus washer/dryer. There is a garden with an outdoor eating area.

Style Notes

Classic meets modern. The apartment was recently renovated with a brand new wooden floor and conservatory and a new open kitchen with large stove and oven. The decor is fun, playful and comfortable throughout. Despite being on the ground floor, kitchen and living spaces are light. The kids bedrooms are brightly decorated with imaginative touches, wall decals and bed canopies; the master bedroom is spacious and soothing with silver globe lights and floor to ceiling curtains. We love the modern fireplace between the kitchen and lounge, the tiled floors in the conservatory and the welcoming feel throughout.

Were a happy family of four living in Amsterdam. We love traveling the world. Kid & Coe is great as it helps us discovering the world more as a locals than as a tourist. We welcome families in our house to do the same.

We had a great stay at Paul's house. The children felt at home. The house is very nicely furnished and perfectly situated.
