Perks for the Parents

This large 1840s-era home is a 10-minute drive from downtown Hudson and includes nature paths, a small climbing wall and plenty for young children. Well located for a family stay in the Hudson Valley, it is set up with a main house with 3 bedrooms and a large living space, and a guesthouse barn with a bedroom for 2. It has 3 fresh food farm stands in close proximity, plus Hanford Grocery store is a 2-minute drive away. The house is a 10-minute drive from the Hudson Amtrak train station.

Why Kids Love it

The house has plenty of outdoor space for children of all ages and adults can supervise from the large deck. There is a substantial jungle gym with 2 slides and a small climbing wall, plus nature paths on the property. The screened porch is especially nice to lounge in with an infant. Inside you can close off the kitchen and bar room to contain the younger kids while cooking. Toys and up to 3 cribs (2 travel cribs, 1 wooden crib) are provided.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Price reflects both properties (guest house and main house) booked together; there is no discount for fewer guests. There are no stair gates and no child safety locks on cabinets. Children can roam freely in the garden, but note that it is not fenced and younger children may need supervision. There are 2 other barns besides the guest house – they will be locked and entry into those is forbidden. There are cut trails at the edge of the yard into the corn. Kids will need to be supervised there. The property ends where the corn starts. The bedroom in the guest house is not ideal for young children. Included: 70 inch TV with Direct TV, gas grill and Sonos speakers. Car rental useful but not essential with good train links with New York City.

About the Location

The house is in rural Hudson, 10-minutes’ drive from Hudson town center but with no neighbor visibility from the backyard. Grocery stores and all conveniences are found in the town and close to the house. The Hudson Amtrak station is at the edge of Hudson and 10 minutes' drive from the house. Hudson is easily reached by Amtrak from Manhattan with a travel time of 2 hours - an early Monday morning trip in for work or a day trip to the city with or without the kids are all easily doable from this location. Airports in close proximity include Albany (1 hour), JFK (2 hours) and Newark (2 hours 15 minutes).

Accommodation Details

This 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home includes 3,100 sq ft of living space, a 1,000 sq ft back deck and 800 sq ft finished guest barn. Split across the 2 buildings, the main house contains 3 bedrooms in the main house (2 with a queensize bed, 1 with a double), 3 bathrooms, and a chef’s kitchen and a large living space, with lounges and a dining room plus a small office nook. The guest barn has 1 bedroom (with a queensize bed) and 1.5 bathrooms. The properties are set on 2 acres with nature paths, an outdoor fire pit and a jungle gym.

Style Notes

Farmhouse cool. Eccentric art and books balance with classic elements in this large 1840s era house. It combines the charm of an old place with modern amenities, with a wood-burning fireplace for cozy winter nights, restaurant-grade kitchen appliances for making the most of local produce, and family-friendly living spaces. We love the polkadot floor in the bathroom, the fabulous views from the deck, and the classic red Hudson Valley barn guest house.

The house is gorgeous and was perfect for our 4th of July stay! The kitchen was great to cook in, and the living room was super comfortable for our group. We also loved be back deck and fire pit. The location was perfect - easy to get to from the city but it felt worlds apart, close to local conveniences including grocery and great restaurants and just a beautiful spot all around. Would love to go back

Hudson, Hudson Valley

Right on the Hudson River, between Albany and Kingston, Hudson is a really interesting place to base yourself for a Hudson Valley stay. Kids will love the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Museum of Firefighting, which has dress up, firefighter challenges and lots more hands on fun, art fans will admire the Marina Abramović Institute, showcasing music, opera, film and more, and in August each year, the free Hudson Music Festival brings color, life and music to the town.
