Perks for the Parents

This unique and stunning 2-level apartment in the heart of Copenhagen is walking distance from all the city’s best attractions and includes plenty for kids under 10. The residence is full of Danish design details, minimalist touches and historic angles, and can sleep 2 couples or 2 adults and up to 4 children. The master bedroom has a double bed and there are 2 smaller bedrooms. The main living space is airy and light and there are views of the old historical parts of Copenhagen including the Parliament towers from its windows.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books (most in Danish) for kids under 10. It is a great family space and is in a fantastic central location, a short walk from playgrounds and just around the corner from the King’s Garden, which has an authentic castle. The kids rooms are bright and colorful and include 1 with a twin bed and 1 with a queensize bed on the ground floor and ladder to a loft with another queensize bed above it. Another bedroom has a raised platform bed and can sleep 2 adults or kids alike. This loft bed and ladder is best for children over 6. There is no crib or high chair; it may be possible to arrange one on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. There is a $50 fee per additional guest per day after 4 guests with a maximum of 8 guests. The flat is safe and secure on the third floor with no elevator. There are a lot of stairs, including a flight of stairs on entry. Access is via a lockbox. There is a mezzanine level with stairs but no stair gate - young children will need extra help, and one of the bedrooms has a bed raised on a platform with a drop beneath it - best for older kids (6+). The main staircase has a rail on one side only so small toddlers will need a hand. Note that as typical in Copenhagen, the bathroom is small and has a shower only. The master bedroom is in at the top of the building and has sloping ceilings. Note there is no TV and no parking.

About the Location

The residence is in the Indre By/Inner City area of Copenhagen. Sights, restaurants and cafés are on the doorstep; there is no need for car rental as everything can be reached on foot, by bike or by public transit. Nearby family-friendly attractions include the Lakes, Torvehallerne food hall, National Museum, Tivoli Gardens and Nyhavn, all 5-20 minutes away on foot. Copenhagen Kastrup Airport is 25 minutes away by taxi, and 20 minutes by public transit.

Accommodation Details

This unique flat has an unusual layout. It is on the third floor of a house and is set over 2 levels. The main floor includes an open plan kitchen/dining area with lounge. It leads to 2 bedrooms (you have to walk through one to reach the other), the first with a twin bed, the second with queensize bed plus queensize bed on a mezzanine above it, reached by ladder. A further small bedroom has a custom fitted queensize double bed on a raised platform with a small drop, suitable for adults and older kids only. There is a compact bathroom with shower. The master bedroom is on the top floor and has a queensize bed. There are no balconies and there is no outdoor space.

Style Notes

Danish design. The unique flat is on the top floor in a 17th Century house, and is quiet and spacious, tucked away from the street in a pretty courtyard. The living room has wooden floors, white walls and a modern kitchen overlooking the Copenhagen’s cobbled streets and gilded spires. The apartment is light, spacious and minimally decorated following Nordic-Danish design ideals. Wooden beams, painted white, add a touch of history while 24 sky lights bring in an incredible Nordic light. We love the imaginative custom-made spaces, the ceiling beams and the great bedrooms for kids.

We spent a great week in Copenhagen in summer 2019. The apartment is spacious and a great location. One should just know that it is on attic level, thus a few stairs with little kids and can get quite warm if you happen to have a hot summer (as we did).

Excellent flat in an excellent location with a very friendly and helpful host. I would definitely recommend it.

Indre By, Copenhagen

Cobbled streets, cozy cafes and designer shops

Copenhagen’s oldest neighborhood, the ‘inner city’, is all cobbled streets, cozy cafes and designer shops. This being Copenhagen, there are plenty of places to play, including The King’s Garden, which stages shows and events for families in the summer. It’s a great location for the modern waterfront and the city’s museums too.
