Catch some warm African sun lounging at the pool, take a walk through the neighborhood, or enjoy a glass of Cape wine while watching the sun set. It is a great house for families or groups wanting to explore the Cape Town area.

Why Kids Love it

The residence has plenty of toys and books for kids under 10 and is a lovely family space with a living room and separate TV room. A crib, high chair, baby toys and a baby bath can be provided on request. It is around 20 minutes’ drive from Cape Town’s beaches. The garden has a generous lawn, great for games, and a large pool. The downstairs garden suite would suit a nanny or au pair perfectly. The kids bedroom, at the top of the house, has a bunk bed and is filled with toys, games and playful details.

Note that the minimum stay is 5 days. The house is safe and secure in a gated complex made up of 4 houses. There is an alarm on the house and a night guard in the complex. The house is double story - there are no stair gates. There is a large enclosed outdoor split-level garden space and a swimming pool (which is not fenced and has no pool net). There is a double garage as well as 2 outdoor canopied parking bays. As is the case with most South African destinations, car hire is essential.

About the Location

The home has panoramic views of the Southern Suburbs, and is located within a short distance of amenities. The property is located in an upmarket section of Kenilworth known for its stately homes on spacious grounds. Modern, relaxed and elegant. The residence is luxurious, with quirky touches included an array of designer wallpaper, and refined contemporary details throughout. We love the outdoor spaces, with comfortable seating and divine views, along with the sleek bathrooms and the fun-packed kids room. The property is a blend of old and new, having a significant history and character, but also having been beautifully restored and updated for contemporary and secure living.

We are The Gallaghers. My husband Liam and I (Julie) are both South Africans born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. We now live overseas in Switzerland with our two daughters, Zara and Bailey and go "home" frequently to visit our families living in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We equally love the sun and the snow and all the sport and activities that go with each one. I joined Kid & Coe so other families could enjoy our holiday home in Cape Town and experience South Africa - "our beloved country". Or ski the alps in our holiday apartment in Andermatt, Switzerland.

Absolutely loved our time at Elphinstone House! The charming historic layout, garden, community, and close amenities made it a perfect base for us to explore Cape Town with four adults and two girls. Thank you, Gallagher family, for sharing your beautiful home! We can’t wait to return.

Kenilworth, Cape Town

Horse racing and exotic blooms

One of Cape Town’s safe and leafy southern suburbs, Kenilworth is on the main railway line into the city and is known for its racecourse. It’s an easy 20-minute drive into the Waterfront and to Table Mountain, while Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are an exotic treat just a short drive away. For rainy days, Kenilworth Karting is fun for mini speed demons.
