Perks for the Parents

This sophisticated, minimalist retreat in the Catskills combines stunning ultra-modern design in a gorgeous natural setting. It sleeps up to 4. Parents who like to cook have the kitchen of their dreams with a 5-burner Bertazzoni propane range and oven, full-size Fisher Paykel fridge, pour-over coffee tools, a Nespresso and a sous vide machine. There’s a big dining table in the kitchen and an outdoor table for baking, cooking and family meals in or outdoors. All the family will enjoy piling onto the big, cozy bed to watch movies on the projector.

Why Kids Love it

Kids love the big soaking tub with a giant picture window that looks onto the trees. There’s an integrated gate at the top of the stairs to keeps kids safe. This house is suitable for babies, toddlers and teenagers. Little ones love digging in the dirt outside and older kids will appreciate the WiFi and Netflix and relaxing in front of the fireplace. If you need a crib, high chair, diaper changing station, or any toys please let the hosts know. Out and about, the popular Kelder’s Farm with a petting zoo, corn maze and outdoor bouncy floor is a 15 minutes’ drive.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. There is an EV charger for Teslas and a generic 50 V plug if you have an electric car. The house has a dead-end road in front of it. There are occasional vehicles that pass by, so kids who don't know about cars yet should be watched. The stairs can be slippery and narrow, so kids who are just learning should take care – there is a gate at the top to stop them from going down from the bedroom. The home has hidden technology including Sonos in each room and Alexa for the lights. A car is essential for this stay.

About the Location

The house is in Palenville, a small hamlet of Kerhonkson, NY, approximately 2 hours, 20 minutes from NYC. It’s a great location to connect with nature and to eat: there are hiking trails at the nearby Vernooy Kill Falls and Minnewaska State Park, as well as great food and activities such as Westwind Orchard & Cidery and Arrowood Farms – both feature giant lawns where visiting and local kids run around while adults eat and drink. Also local and within 20 minutes’ drive is Cherries Deli, a traditional ice-cream shop, and lots of adult and kid-friendly restaurants. For upscale dinner out, try Silvia's in Woodstock and Butterfield in Stone Ridge.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom on 2 stories. It’s designed for 2, accommodates up to 5 and will feed up to 6. On the main floor is an open plan living space with a custom sofa that converts to a double / full sofabed, a propane gas fireplace, record player, dining table and chef’s kitchen. Upstairs is a queensize bedroom with a single day bed, drop-down projector screen with Netflix and a writing desk. The bathroom has a freestanding soaking tub with a rain shower. Outside is a patio with a table and chairs for outdoor dining and a gas grill.

Style Notes

Minimalist but warm-hearted for design and food lovers. This cozy hideaway has been passionately renovated and is perfect for those who want to get away to the woods in comfort and style. The kitchen is constructed from Baltic birch plywood and white shiplap with beamed ceilings and white concrete countertops. Some furniture has been custom-made for the space and there are pieces by Faye Toogood, Muuto, Normann Copenhagen, Branden Ravenhill, Menu and Bludot. We love the Modernist Cuisine books; the premium linens and bath products; and the freestanding soaking tub with a view of the woods.

Hi there, we are designers transitioning from life in NYC to life in the Catskills. My husband and I run a branding studio together, and enjoy great food, design, art and architecture, and love experiencing a new place like a local, especially with our young son!
