Perks for the Parents

This Tahoe guest house is a short walk from the lake and beach, and well located for snowsports, with Heavenly Mountain Resort a 10-minute drive away. For hiking, East Peak and Monument Peak are a short away; in summer, the lake’s sandy beaches make for easy family days. Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort includes gondolas, summer activities, and ski slopes and ski school in season. The house is set up for families and includes a washer-dryer, ensuite bathroom for parents and separate family bathroom for kids, and a pack’n’play for tots.

Why Kids Love it

Set up with a cute kids bunk room decorated with plaid and moose throw pillows, this Lake Tahoe home is close to plenty of fun outdoor activities for kids of all ages, including watersports and snowsports. Group ski lessons at Heavenly Mountain Resort start at age 4. Even small kids can walk to the sandy beach without getting tired out. After a day in the great outdoors, kids can relax on bean bag chairs and watch Nickelodeon and Disney via cable TV, while their parents have a choice of channels on the TVs in the bedroom and living room. There is a second bunk bed in a common area downstairs.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. This 2-story guest house has a private entrance and is part of a 4-story building. The owners live on the top 2 floors. It was built with the owner’s 3-year-old's safety in mind: the stairwell to the entrance has dead-bolt lock to prevent your little explorer from wandering or stair jumping, and the back deck has sturdy small metal mesh railings. The hosts live in the area and can provide a detailed home manual prior to your arrival, which includes hot spots, local attractions, transportation guidelines and more. Car rental essential.

About the Location

The house is in South Tahoe, close to the Nevada border, and walking distance from the lake. There are not many places in-town where you can get the spectacular views of the lake and Mt Tallac yet be close to grocery stores, rental shops and eateries - so it’s a great location for a family keen to enjoy nature and have conveniences nearby. Lake Tahoe airport is a 10-15 minute drive away; Sacramento Airport is just over 2 hours’ drive away, while San Francisco is around 2.5 hours away.

Accommodation Details

This compact 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home is set over 2 levels. It has a small mud room on entry to the property. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and an ensuite shower bathroom; the second bedroom has 1 bunk beds and a third bedroom has a kingsize bed. There is also a bunk bed downstairs in a common area. There is a living room on each floor, and 1.5 kitchens, one on each floor. There is a bathroom on the ground floor and 1.5 bathrooms on the upper floor. There is a small gated backyard area with BBQ/grill and outside dining area on the ground floor and an outdoor patio with seating on the second story.

Style Notes

Mountain Modern. With sleek finishes including a quartz countertop and walnut hardwood floors, this new home mimics the colours of the lake and surrounding landscape. Warm and cozy with a fire to light in winter and plenty of cozy linens and throws, the compact house makes a great base for a family ski or lake vacation. We love the fluffy pillows, the forest views from the bedroom and the great location.

We have lived in South Lake Tahoe for 20+ years. Tracy and I enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities of Tahoe, summer and winter. We love sharing our mountain home with others when we're not able to be there. We want you to have a wonderful stay in either our Lake Tahoe home or our Modern Mountain Guest apartment and will do our best as hosts to make that happen. We provide a detailed home manual prior to your arrival, which includes hot spots, local attractions, transportation guidelines etc. We are helpful, responsive and happy to host new families.

Lake Tahoe, United States

Ski slopes and secret beaches

America’s best lake, where Nevada and California meet, is an escape from city living and a return to outdoors fun, surrounded by pine forests and rugged mountains. In the summer, play on the beach, go pleasure boating or take to the lake trying any number of watersports activities - scuba diving, jet skiing, waterskiing and more are on offer. Simply swimming in the clear water is the best fun. And in the winter, the ski stations nearby offer so much for families: tubing, skiing, skating and sledding, plus daycare for kids from two months old.
