This historic chateau with an aristocratic pedigree is surrounded by three acres of land and has a pool, making it a charming getaway for up to 12 adults plus children. It’s in the Limousin, with characterful villages nearby and a high level of comfort inside. Catering can be provided as required, with local pastries for breakfast and gourmet meals for dinner. We love the sleek pool, with LED lights after dark, the large family kitchen and the grounds, enclosed by a stone wall. It’s a wonderful spot for an extended family break with room to roam and enjoy this part of unspoilt France.

What we love

  • The lavender-lined entrance, rolling lawns and shady trees in the three-acre walled park surrounding the chateau
  • There’s also a fantastic 12 x 6m saltwater pool surrounded by chic loungers and a dining area, with LED lighting after dark, a stereo system and a Weber BBQ. It’s heated May-September
  • The living spaces are light and airy, with a sun-filled living room with sofa, stereo and garden access plus a day room with sofas, satellite TV, DVDs, books and games
  • The spacious kitchen has everything you need to cook up a gourmet feast from the local market, including the local white Limoges porcelain
  • There’s a stylish dining room with a dark oak B&B Italia table, open fireplace and seating for 12
  • Alternatively, if you don’t want to cook, there are catering options available, where breakfast, lunch and dinner can be provided for all or part of your stay, as you wish
  • On the ground floor there is a double bedroom, twin bedroom and adjoining bathroom
  • There are a further 5 double bedrooms, 1 with an additional single bed and 4 more limestone-clad bathrooms with showers
  • It’s great for a large family break, multigenerational stay or trip with another family or two
  • Nearby family-friendly attractions include Futuroscope theme park (1 hour 12 minutes away), plus options for kayaking, rock climbing, horse riding, white water rafting and archery 13 km away

I cannot say enough about how incredible our holiday was at chateau du Chiron. The most gorgeous home and beautifully decorated! The grounds and the pool were perfect. We had the most amazing week and will definitely be going back. James was the most fantastic host and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you!

Lovely property, nicely renovated with all amenities you can wish for and an awesome swimming pool. James is a great host and the neighboring town has all the delicacies you would expect in France.

Our stay at Chateau du Chiron was simply amazing. The property is impressive, the amenities are well appointed and the beds are divinely comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and well looked after, James is a very accommodating host and only a quick call away if you need anything. We can't wait to return.

Limousin, South of France

Sunshine and birdsong

This region in the northwest part of the Massif Central is all lush valleys, quiet hills and grazing pastures, and is known for its nature and its calm. A vacation here is about the little things: being woken by sunshine and birdsong in the morning, splashing in rivers and creating divine picnics from the delicious local food. The capital of the region, Limoges, is known for its pottery and medieval buildings, but beyond that the most inspiring aspect is the countryside. Hike, ride or hire bikes for the whole family. Embark on a kayak adventure down the Dordogne. Take the kids to one of the many adventure parks with climbing trails or assault courses. Or visit the traditional family holiday attractions: water parks, zoos and farms, and enjoy the quieter pace of life.
