Perks for the Parents

This Portuguese palace, ideal for 1, 2 or 3 families, is in upmarket Belem and includes a vast garden, stately rooms, modern art and unique treasures. It is all well set up for a family stay to remember, with spacious rooms, space to play and beautifully renovated areas. For any staff or more children, there are 2 downstairs bedrooms and a bathroom offering extra privacy. Overall, it has the feel of a holiday house in the city, and is in a fine location for exploring the city and its culture, walking beside the river, and exploring beaches a short drive away.

Why Kids Love it

Not only is this a lavish, luxurious and wonderfully liveable palace to rent, it has a great garden for kids and is well equipped for younger tots, with a travel crib, high chair and toys, books and DVDs on request. The location in Belem is sensational, close to the Jeronimos Monastery, walking distance to some of the city’s greatest museums and very close to Pasteis de Belem, where you can see the city’s famous custard tarts being made (and sample them too). The river is a 5-minute walk away and there are parks nearby with plenty of activities for children.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The house can be rented as a 5-bedroom property or with all bedrooms as a 7-bedroom property. It is set over the ground and first floor with no elevator. There are ungated stairs throughout, plus stone stairs outside to the garden with no gates and some balconies where children should be closely supervised. The owners have a list of recommended babysitters and a private chef available on request. Four hours of daily housekeeping service is included.

About the Location

The residence is in Belem, a quiet, leafy and upmarket location 10 minutes away from Lisbon’s city center in a main tourist area close to Jeronimos Monastery and most of Lisbon museums. It is a 5-minute walk from river and parks and a short drive from the beaches in Cascais. Lisbon airport is a 20-minute drive away. There is car parking very close by; car rental is useful but not essential for this area.

Style Notes

Modern luxury. This renovated XVIII century palace is simply breathtaking. Mixing modern minimalist decoration with magnificent old frescos through spacious rooms with outstanding historical features, it is a true original. Special features include original XVIII century tiles, and a vast 110 sqm living room. We love the Instagram-perfect blue and white tiled facade, the sensational modern art, and the atmosphere-rich wood panelled dining room.

Lisbon, Portugal

Custard-yellow trams and soulful Fado

The Portuguese capital crowns the country, lording over the land from its seven steep hills speckled with sepia-toned Moorish castles and Baroque palaces, and set against the piercing blue of the Tagus River. Get acquainted with the city on a custard-yellow tram, a cheap-as-chips joy ride for kids of all ages, rattling past all the significant sights; or ride the landmark Eiffel Tower-like Santa Justa street lift, which trundles up to the retail heaven of Chiado.
