Perks for the Parents

This charming family home, bordering on Silverlake in Los Feliz, includes a leafy backyard with ping pong table, and beautiful decor throughout. The house is well set up for families with multiple children or even traveling with a nanny. The private backyard has a swing that hangs from a lemon tree, and inside the house there are comfortable living spaces, a well equipped kitchen and a digital projector for movie night. The location makes for an easy stay in the city, walking distance from Griffith Park and public transit to Hollywood, Universal Studios and downtown.

Why Kids Love it

The toys and books appeal to babies and toddlers, while the ping pong table is great for children, teens and adults alike. The location is great for families with Griffith Park and Silver Lake Reservoir a stone’s throw away. The house is also walking distance from grocery stores, shops, restaurants and a farmer’s market. Plenty of items are on offer for younger kids including a baby bath, high chair, changing table, a travel crib/playpen, Mama Roo baby rocker and Baby Bjorn chair. There is a fun macrame swing hanging from the lemon tree in the backyard and a vintage upright piano in the living room.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. The yard is gated but there are no other baby gates in the house; the kitchen and bathroom cupboards are child-proofed, as are electrical outlets. There are 8 steps to the front door and there are 3 steps to the side door, which is more commonly used. The dining room has french doors that open out to the middle of the back yard and to which there is a step down to a landing and then another step down into the gravel. Car rental is not essential: public transportation is a short walk away. While there is no TV in the house, there is a projector with speaker and Apple TV. There is lots of easy street parking.

About the Location

The residence is in Los Feliz on the border with Silver Lake, within walking distance of some of LA's top family spots. It is minutes from Griffith Park where you will find the historical Observatory, tennis courts, golf courses, The Greek Theatre (live music), pony rides, the LA Zoo and hiking trails to such points as Dante's Peak, where atop you will find a 360-degree view of all of LA. The house is also a short walking distance to both Los Feliz Village for restaurants and all conveniences and stores. There is a METRO train running to downtown, Hollywood and Universal Studios just a short walk away. LAX is just over an hour away, depending on traffic.

Accommodation Details

This 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom house includes a living room with fireplace and upright piano, kitchen with stove, bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bath tub, and dining room. Both bedrooms have a queensize bed. There is a washer-dryer in the kitchen area. The outdoor space includes an outdoor lounge with ping pong table and barbecue area, plus an array of fruit trees and plants.

Style Notes

Bright and beautiful. The decor is a mix of contemporary and antique/vintage, with an eclectic yet clean and comfortable feel. Both bedrooms are spacious and have a calming feel. The kitchen has original tiles and a stove dating to the late 30's/early 40's. Chock-full of interesting curiosities, this house has so much to appeal to families. We love the vintage piano and telescope, and the spacious, bright bedrooms.

We're a creative couple with an a wonderful baby girl. We spend most summers in the south of Sweden when my husband is from and often visit my family in Canada. We are also very fond of taking spontaneous road trips to the dessert or up the coast. We love to hang at home and take walks around our neighborhood. We are also both big fans of cooking and throwing dinner parties. We joined Kid & Coe to offer our child friendly home to other families while we travel.

Los Feliz, Los Angeles

1950s diners and vintage boutiques

Los Feliz is an upmarket hillside enclave near the Hollywood Hills in north-central LA. With wide boulevards, architect-designed buildings and affluent residents, it's a desirable place to be. The main drag isn't all about money though: expect to find vintage shops, 1950s boutiques and retro-styled diners made for slurping a $5 shake.
