Style Notes

Manhattan chic. The love child of New York hoteliers Sean MacPherson, Ira Drukier, and Richard Born, the hotel pays homage to the Lower East Side’s rich history, from the “Gangs of New York” era to Jewish immigration to the wild art and music scenes. On entry you’re greeted with oak-paneled walls, antique chandeliers, and buzzing bars. Rooms feature oversized windows, plush furnishings including Indo-Portuguese style beds, dark-stained hardwood floors with handmade silk rugs, and white ceilings with exposed wooden beams. Bathrooms have black-and-white tile work, marble mosaic floors, brass fixtures, rainshower heads, and many feature windowed soaking tubs. Common spaces in the hotel are grand and luxurious, with an edge: the lobby extends to a large lounge with limestone fireplace and a lobby bar, with an outdoor garden beyond. The hotel’s restaurant, Dirty French, features art hand-picked by Vito Schnabel and a French antique carnival mirror that spans nearly the entire length of one wall. Photos are by Annie Schlechter.

We stayed with our one year old, and had a fantastic trip. The room and bathroom was well- appointed, and they provided a lovely crib and linens. The lobby / bar area is very cool, but not so much that you feel funny bringing your littles. We noticed lots of families taking advantage of the cozy nooks. It's really fairly-priced for NYC, and in a great neighborhood, with great walkability to Soho, East Village and Union Square. Great NYC hotel option! x

Lower East Side, Manhattan

Side Streets Full Of Gems

Once the home of bohemians and artists, the Lower East Side maintains the appearance of old New York while accommodating modern culture. Its side streets are full of public gardens, large parks, and small shops for kids to explore. Take a short walk across the Williamsburg Bridge for skyline views and don't miss the meows and purrs at the area's cat cafes.
