Style Notes

Contemporary chic. This fabulous modern house is set in a rural landscape with views of fields and vineyards, and includes unique spaces and decor throughout. Colorful touches inside bring it alive; the double height ceiling in the main living space adds grandeur, space and light. Some of the windows in the TV room came from the National Palace of Mafra and once belonged to Portuguese kings; others came from the host’s grandparents house. Cabinets on the mezzanine level display an array of vintage collectibles, from Russian dolls to Bakelite telephones and beautiful bowls. Bedrooms are simple and colorful, with studded headboards, an array of pine bunk beds and space to spread out; bathrooms are sleek and include contemporary baths, colorful tiles and Hollywood lighting around mirrors. We love the flair, the hammock overlooking the landscape, and the indoor-outdoor feel.

Hello, I'm Raquel and this is our dream home! We don't live here fulltime anymore, but we love to spend a few weeks during the year, with our friends and kids! The outdoor area, with the pool and the barbeque, it's perfect for relax and play with the kids! I love nature, sun, beach, a good party with some friends & wine by the pool; travel and learn. Quinta da Azenha is a great place to be because we are in the countryside, with a lot of privacy, but just 30 minutes away both from the ocean and beach and from Lisbon centre, the most beautiful city! Can it gets better? The house was redecorated to accommodate more guests, but is still very personal and cosy. I wish you can enjoy Quinta da Azenha, as we do and be happy here, as we are!!! Welcome!!!

Mafra, Lisbon

A grand palace and a short drive to the beach

This city and district 40 minutes north of Lisbon is noted for its supersized baroque palace that apparently bankrupted the nation back in the 18th century, now open for tours, as is its former hunting grounds turned wildlife park. Mafra makes a good base for exploring much of this part of south-central Portugal, including the surf mecca of Ericera, 10 minutes’ drive away, along with romantic Sintra, opulent Queluz and the pretty resort of Cascais.
