Perks for the Parents

This divine villa with a pool is a delightful retreat from the heady streets of Marrakesh medina, 25 minutes away, and has space to sleep up to 10. The property has a maid and optional private chef to make your stay easier. The spacious garden has lawns, shaded areas and an attractively fenced pool. Decor is classic Moroccan with tiled floors and colorful fabrics. It’s in a peaceful spot with bustling markets and the Atlas Mountains within easy reach for day trips. In the evening, dine on the romantic terrace or under the stars in the garden.

Why Kids Love it

The pool and garden offer plenty of space to play, and the pool has a shallow end ideal for younger kids. There is a larger pool in the clubhouse a short walk away, where there is also pétanque, a clay tennis court and table tennis. Nearby there is a water park; the city’s labyrinthine souk itself is great fun with children - magical and mysterious in equal measure - and there are plenty of souvenirs to buy and opportunities to haggle. Beyond Marrakesh, Sahara desert, Atlas Mountain and camel riding trips will fire their imagination.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days. The villa is on 1 level and has tiled floors and a few steps around the property. The housekeeper prepares breakfast and can book a chef for lunch or evening meals, typically a multi-course Moroccan feast or Western-inspired menu. The villa is in a small tranquil estate of properties with 24 hour security. Guests have shared use of the estate’s communal areas, including a large pool, beautiful gardens, hammam and spa, clay tennis court and pétanque ring.

About the Location

The residence is 25 minutes by car from Marrakesh in the Palmerie area of the city. A driver or private car rental can be easily arranged to explore the city and surrounds. Nearby there are excellent golf courses, spas, water parks, camel rides and quad biking. Trips further afield to the Berber villages of the High Atlas, dramatic desert landscapes, crumbling Kasbahs and lush river valleys all possible. The nearest airport is Marrakesh Menara, 20 minutes’ drive away.

My wife is a magazine journalist and editor who gets her kicks from uncovering the best a city has to offer. I've been in finance .. and feeling a little unfulfilled .. now exploring new ventures. I was brought up in the countryside and whilst loving the buzz of a city am equally happy to get away from it all. Together we live a life that takes in the best of both worlds and are bringing up our children (aged 6, 4 and a baby) to appreciate the vibrancy of London life while being able to entertain themselves all day on the beaches of the East Kent coast or at the Villa in Marrakesh. We're both keen travellers and believe that with a bit of thought, preparation and the right attitude, children should encourage, rather than stop you from doing anything or going anywhere you want to go.

We had a wonderful time staying at Villa Nine. It was a lovely property, Chris was a pleasure to deal with, and we were able to easily add extras like a private chef and driver who could take us into Marrakech. The pool was heated and house was very comfortable with lots of space. I would definitely recommend it.

Great looking house in a private guarded residentially community. The home is about 40 minutes away from the Marrakesh main square and airport so transportation is required. Friendly staff, Touria is the housekeeper/caretaker (Great cook with a good heart but does not speak or understand English), recommend that the baby crib be built prior to tenants arrival (I built the crib and moved it myself) and had to ask for towels and extra blankets. This home would be perfect if it received a few upgrades. All doors or windows have gaps which allow air to flow into the house (Not ideal for cold winter nights), heaters did not warm the house completely but the fireplace did work and warm the home.

Marrakesh, Morocco

Snake charmers and desert gardens

Visiting Marrakesh is like stepping into a heady Arabian dream - from snake charmers in Djemma el Fna square to the labyrinthine souks where you can’t fail to get lost among stalls of magic lanterns. Soak up the atmosphere with pretty pastries and mint tea in a pavement café and be sure to visit the Majorelle Gardens on the outskirts of the city where the exotic garden displays the brightest colors around. Outside the city, day trip to the Atlas Mountains or take the kids camel riding in the Sahara - it’s a magical experience for all the family.
