Why Kids Love it

The South Durham Road Residence is very kid-friendly. There are toys, books and a spacious front yard (3/4 acre) that’s perfect for kids who like playing outdoors. The house is located on a quiet street with little to no traffic. Montauk School is nearby, which has an awesome playground. The hosts can provide baby equipment including a pack n' play, baby bath and high chair on request. Out and about, kids can hunt for sea glass and shells on the beach, climb the Montauk Lighthouse, go fishing, take a boat ride, try horse-riding and sample homemade ice cream flavors at local institution, John's Drive-in.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Safety notes: Children should be supervised on the upper deck. The basement stairs have a top lock and the hosts will provide cabinet locks for baby proofing if required. There is a short 5-step stairway to access the front deck from the driveway. Guests are welcome to borrow the 5 adult-size bikes and there is also a 2-seater bike trailer plus kids’ helmets. There is 1 space in the garage to park your car and the driveway can fit an additional 3 vehicles. There are a single sofabed in the downstairs den and a travel crib if required. Bed linens, duvets, bath and beach towels are all provided.

About the Location

This vacation home, north of Montauk Hwy, is located on a secluded cul-de-sac. It’s just a 3-minute drive or 5-minute cycle to town and the beach, and a 10-minute walk to the beach access point behind Hero Beach Club Hotel. Montauk is The Hamptons’ cool, laid back neighbor and has many must-visit restaurants including Duryea’s Lobster Deck, The Restaurant at The Surf Lodge and Navy Beach. You can get to the house in approximately 2.5 hours from NYC by car or catch the train or Jitney (the stop is a 20-minute hop by car to the house).

Accommodation Details

This 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom house has an open plan kitchen and living room on the 1st floor. There is a breakfast bar for 3 and a kitchen table with a bench seating 8-10. The living space has a sectional couch, TV and working fireplace. Also on the upper level is a kingsize primary bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with a rainfall shower; a junior full / double master and a kids’ room with bunks sleeping 4. There is a guest bathroom with a tub and shower. Stairs to the lower floor lead into a den with a TV and double sofabed, a queensize bedroom with access to the upper deck, bathroom with a shower, and utility area with a washer / dryer. Outside space includes a front and back deck with lots of cushioned seating, picnic table, Adirondack chairs and a grill, plus a hot tub, outdoor bathroom with a toilet and shower.

Style Notes

Rustic cool, comfortable beach house. This ‘upside down’ residence has been renovated to include lots of natural wood paneling, breezy white walls and interior spaces that open to the outside. The front and back porches provide plenty of options for entertainment and relaxation, while inside design details include wood slice coffee table, an animal skin rug and framed contemporary artwork. We love the absence of fragile objects so parents don’t need to worry about kids running around, the soft blue and gray master bathroom, and the bunkbeds, cleverly designed with individual storage shelves and plugs for USBs.

We split our time between Montauk and NYC. We'd love to host your family for a visit!

Montauk, The Hamptons

Unspoilt beaches beyond the Hamptons

At the furthest reaches of Long Island, just beyond the Hamptons, Montauk is still reachable for a weekend break to remember. And what a weekend break it will be: spend your days playing in the sand on unspoilt beaches, trying out watersports - surfing is really popular year-round - and hiking and kayaking around beautiful headlands.
