Perks for the Parents

This relaxed and refined family villa with a pool in Montego Bay is ideal for vacation in Jamaica, with staff to make your stay as easy as possible. It is surrounded by 4 acres of landscaped grounds overlooking the bay to the front and the rainforest to the rear of the property. There is a cook, a housekeeper and a butler all dedicated to making sure you get a great holiday, and they all love small children. Beaches, restaurants, watersports, jungle treks and more will feature as your favorite holiday memories. Breakfast is included.

Why Kids Love it

Kids all ages will love the acres of grounds to roam around in, the sunshine, the beaches, rivers, and mountains, not to mention Jamaica’s vibrant culture. The owners can also provide a high chair, travel cot, games and more on demand. For older children, the villa is a short drive from the Rose Hall Beach club that offers watersports, beach volleyball and more for a small daily fee. Montego Bay has a wealth of activities, including river rafting, horseback riding, theme parks, a bird sanctuary, a crocodile farm and of course, beaches!

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 days. The residence is in the Great River Private gated community, a peaceful and private location, with River Road ending at the gate. The pool is not heated and is not gated; there are a few steps down to the garden and young children may need to be supervised around the property, which otherwise is on 1 level. WiFi available. Car hire recommended. Grocery shopping can be arranged, as can massages, nannies, babysitters and drivers. Staff gratuities (10-15%) are not included in the rate. Mobile/cell phone signal is good; WiFi can be patchy as typical in the hills of Jamaica.

About the Location

The villa is in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Great River Private in St James, a 20-minute drive from the airport on the road to Negril. Montego Bay (Mo Bay) town center is 4 miles from Star Apple and the nearest village is Hopewell, 2 miles away. The property is 7 miles from the international airport and 5 miles from Montego Bay. There is a public beach with no facilities at the end of the main road and plenty of other beaches in Montego Bay.

Accommodation Details

This 1-story villa in a private gated community has a large open plan lounge-dining area with stunning views of the bay, a separate TV lounge and 3 bedrooms in total. The master bedroom has a queen bed, and 2 additional bedrooms have 2 twin beds. All bedrooms are ensuite and have air conditioning and fans. There is a large dining and play area plus a lounge/bar area, a deck and gardens around a pool.

Style Notes

Colonial chic. The villa is in a former pineapple estate and has dashes of last century colonial style. Walls are white with bright modern art and pretty mirrors; carvings and buddhas add some exotic appeal. The lush gardens are full of exotic plants and trees. We love the paved and semi-covered deck for dining in the open air, the pitched ceilings with ceiling fans and wooden detail, and the stylish pool area.

I was born in Jamaica but grew up, and still live in London. I am the proud father of 3 lovely daughters. They are now teeagers, but have been going to Star Apple since they were babies, and our lovely staff have helped looking after them since then. The girls are real water babies and enjoy all kinds of water sports, sailing, horse riding, hill walking, rafting, sunbathing, shopping etc... We joined in order to bring our cottage to the attension of parents and invite them so share in our Jamaica experience, whilst introducing their children to somewhere diffirent and interesting...We'd also like to try other places ourselves, and thought this might be an interesting way of seeing whats out there...

I can't begin to express how great our stay at Star Apple was. It was our home away from home. My family (2 adults and 3 kids between ages 21-26) and I spent 10 days at this house celebrating Christmas, a birthday, and New Years Eve. It was truly the perfect holiday vacation. Before our trip, Robert, the owner, was very helpful on setting us up with a driver, things to do, advice on the house, the country, and everything else. He coordinated a driver from the airport to the house where Pansy, the chef, and Michael, the butler, were waiting for us. Star Apple is a lovely house perched halfway up a mountain in Great River overlooking the rainforest and Montego Bay. It is a gated and safe community with several beautiful homes on the way up. The house is spacious, yet cozy with an open-air concept. There is a huge back porch where we ate all our meals and a comfy set of table & chairs on the other end of the porch for just hanging out or reading. We spent a lot of time outside on the back porch or by the pool (which gets a lot of good morning/early afternoon sun). At night, be sure to go outside by the pool and look up at the sky. The stars are incredible and very visible since the house is on a mountain. Every morning we sat down to a beautifully set table by Michael and had breakfast prepared by Pansy. We planned most of our days in the mornings and let Micheal and Pansy know if we would be eating lunch and/or dinner at the house. Our days varied with breakfast everyday, lunch a few times, and dinner about 5-6 times during our stay. Pansy is an excellent cook serving up delicious Jamaican cuisine (her specialty is chicken), though she will cook you whatever you want. We went to the grocery and bought a bunch of food and she took the reigns from there. A few things we did while in Jamaica: We spent a few days at Half Moon Beach Club where you can get a weekly membership. They serve drinks, lunch, and have a very nice atmosphere. It is about a 20-minute drive from Star Apple. One day we went sailing with Carolyn from Lark Cruises. We highly recommend this excursion. We learned so much about the Jamaican culture from Carolyn and were able to go snorkeling and sail all around Montego Bay. One day we went to Bob Marley's tomb in Ocho Rios. This was a far drive, but definitely worth the trip! One thing I would like to note about our stay - we traveled to Jamaica in December. The weather was very pleasant (not too hot) so we kept the doors open most days. Since this house is an open air concept and most time is spent outside on the back porch, we definitely recommend bringing and wearing bug spray. We hope one day we will be back in Jamaica and get to stay at Star Apple again. It was an incredible place to stay!

Montego Bay, Jamaica

All the swagger of Usain Bolt

In Montego Bay, days are spent on pristine white sands, gazing at the liners heading out to sea, with evenings in welcoming rustic beach shacks, swaying your hips to reggae, and sinking your teeth into a leg of mouth-watering spiced chicken. The sun is hot, the rum’s on ice, the fruits and fish are fresher than you’ve ever tasted, and the Blue Mountain coffee is the perfect pick-me up in the morning. Let the kids swashbuckle their way into the island’s pirate history, race through the waves with all the spirit, speed and swagger of Usain Bolt.
