Perks for the Parents

This historic family home, 2 minutes’ walk from Manly Beach, includes a great garden and outdoor living spaces. It has a full kitchen, 3 large and sunny bedrooms and a huge outdoor deck/BBQ area with a sunny grassy backyard. There is a study, 2 bathrooms and a separate studio with another single bed suitable for a nanny or au pair. The living room and outdoor deck are both huge sunny spaces where children can play with toys / wheeled toys. The location means there is no need for a car - it is a 2-minute stroll to Manly Beach and around the corner from the gorgeous Shelly Beach (which is protected and great for the little ones as there are no waves). It is also only a 2-minute walk from the Manly ferry, which can take you anywhere in Sydney - to Watsons Bay for fish and chips, to Taronga Zoo or into the city via Circular Quay.

Why Kids Love it

Suitable for babies and toddlers, teenagers and adults. Plenty of equipment is available for children of all ages, including a high chair, a crib, a single bed for a child between 2-5 years old, a Bumbo chair, a Baby Bjorn rocker, hundreds of toys for children aged 1-5 and children's cutlery. The location is great, close to the beach and a short walk to an enormous toddler park; the Manly ferry wharf has a number of great family-friendly restaurants including pizza and fish and chips. The backyard entertaining space makes for a fun summer barbecue with the kids. A ride on the ferry is a beautiful way to spend the day with kids, seeing the famous Sydney harbour and the bridge in the sunshine. The hosts provide a number of different sized surfboards to use at Manly beach along with beach towels.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. There are no stairs but the main road is quite busy so guests should be very careful to keep the front gate and the garage closed at all times. The house is very safe and can be accessed from the front door or through the garage and via the backdoor. There is a car park for guests to park their car, or the hosts can provide a parking permit to use for street parking. Car rental is recommended but not essential; Manly is highly walkable and the ferry can take you to the center of the city easily. There are 3 stairs to access the front porch but otherwise no stairs inside the house - it is all on one level. Also included: bath toys, picnic rugs, cook books, reading books and children's books, a piano, WiFi, DVD player, puzzles/games/cards.

About the Location

The residence is in Manly beach, Sydney, a short walk from one of the most popular beaches in Australia. It has world class waves, snorkelling and scuba diving, and hundreds of family-friendly coffee shops, juice bars and restaurants. It also has numerous parks, great walks/runs along the beach and through the beautiful national park, and plenty of great picnic spots. For the kids, there is the Manly Aquarium, the Manly ferry (which takes you directly past the Harbour Bridge and to Taronga Zoo), kids shops, a library with a huge children's section (and activities) and miles and miles of beautiful beaches to swim and play at. There are many learn-to-surf outfits on Manly beach, a protected and beautiful beach to learn on. For the adults, there are great running/walking tracks, many yoga and fitness studios, weekend markets, great fashion and surf shops and world-class restaurants and bars. Manly wharf is also a great spot for both family-friendly dining or fancier nights out. Sydney airport is 40 minutes by car/taxi or very easily accessed by train and ferry.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house includes a large family area, study, deck and a kid-friendly backyard. There is a master bedroom with a kingsize bed, a second bedroom with a queensize bed, and a children's room with a single bed. There is a study, and a crib plus a spare studio room with a single bed. The bathroom has a tub for kids and shower for adults. The living area is huge and sunny and includes a large plasma TV. The kitchen/breakfast area includes an antique Danish piano. The kitchen itself was new in 2016 and includes state of the art appliances. The garden includes an outdoor lounge, dining area and space to play.

Style Notes

Historical and friendly. This house is one of the original Manly cottages from the 1930s and retains the charm and character from the period in stained-glassed windows, intricate ceilings and original functioning fireplaces. Modern upgrades include a contemporary kitchen with subway tiles, granite bench tops and beautiful skylights. The entire home has original timber floors, while the study, bedrooms and living rooms have plush rugs underfoot. The outdoor deck is timber with an original and functioning fireplace, and the garden is flooded with sunlight - perfect for children to explore and for evening BBQs as the sun sets. We love the art, the cozy bedrooms and the stellar location.

We are a family of 4, recently relocated to Australia from New York City. Dad is a barrister, mum works in international affairs, and we have two little girls aged 3 and 1 and another on the way. We could not love life in Manly more - not a day passes where we aren't swimming, surfing, running or playing in the park, and we are so happy to call this beautiful place home.

Ali was a fabulous host and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house way surpassed our expectations, as the pictures on the website do not do it justice. We loved the expansive back porch, where we spent most of our time when we weren’t at the beach. The location couldn’t have been better. Our family of three kids under five years had a blast playing in The house and the yard, and loved riding the scooter down to the harbour, beach, or the Corso. We were here for Christmas, and Ali even ensured there was a Christmas tree and decorations throughout the house, which charmed us all. We loved our time and would highly recommend it to any family!

Northern Beaches, Sydney

Famous beaches and family fun

Warning: staying here may make you want to emigrate to Sydney. The northern beaches suburb of the city is little drive from the CBD but with famous beaches and national parks on your doorstep, who needs skyscrapers? Eat at beachside cafés, swim in ocean swimming pools and build castles in the sand. The ferry from Manly to the city is one of the best-known attractions; take a stroll around ancient headlands and national parks to truly feel like a local.
