Perks for the Parents

This airy and beachy home in Oakland’s desirable Upper Rockridge neighborhood includes a great garden for kids with custom playhouse and sandbox and lots of space for all the family. Great for urbanites and suburbanites alike, it is walking distance to shops and restaurants and a 15-minute drive into San Francisco. Great for young families, everyone is contained on the same floor in this indoor-outdoor style home, so you will always be able to have eyes and ears on your children. The house is fully wired with Apple TV, Sonos and surround sound throughout.

Why Kids Love it

The house is really well set up for kids aged 0-8. Crib, stroller, high chairs and booster seat, car seats, toys galore and even a custom outdoor playhouse and sandbox are just a few of the kid-centric items on offer. The owner’s 2 boys are 3 and 6 and they have an ample supply of Legos, trucks, robots, and more. An inflatable bouncy house can be put up in the backyard. There is a fully-stocked nursery with crib, rocking chair, changing stations, baby bath, and plenty more for babies. If you have special baby equipment requests, the host may be able to help.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 6 days. The house is childproofed with a gate at the of top the stairs leading down to the fourth bedroom, and all furniture and decor is child-friendly. There are stairs in the garden, which is set over a few levels; toddlers will need a little help. There are screens on all windows so you don't have to worry about leaving them open for fresh air. Not all of the cabinets currently have permanent child locks on them but the hosts can provide temporary ones on request. If you're staying in winter, the hosts will provide instructions for using the gas fireplace (there is a gate in place to keep this safe from little ones).

About the Location

The residence is in the sought-after neighborhood of Upper Rockridge, just a 5-minute drive to the popular shops and restaurants on College Avenue, Grand Avenue and Lakeshore, and a 15-minute drive to San Francisco or Walnut Creek. The Rockridge BART station is a 5-minute drive away ($8 uber ride) or 20 minutes’ walk from the house. There are also buses that will take you around Oakland, Berkeley and to the city all within walking distance. The residence is 20 minutes from Oakland International Airport and 30 minutes from San Francisco airport. The house is on a quiet street with ample parking; car rental advised.

Accommodation Details

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom family home is set over 2 floors. The main part of the house has an open floor plan with french doors to a back patio and garden. Three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are on the main floor - one with a bunk bed, one with a trundle bed and crib, and the master with a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom. The kids' bathroom has a bath, while the master shower has dual shower heads and fits the whole family if needed. Downstairs, there is an additional bedroom with a queensize bed nook, separate living area and bathroom. This level has a private entrance and is perfect for a nanny or au pair.

Style Notes

California Boho-Chic. With a beach house, boho style, this house has plenty of white as a backdrop, sprinkled with indigos and natural textures to add warmth. The kitchen is an entertainer/chef's dream with wide open space, tons of countertops to work on and 2 separate areas with stools. Outside there is a BBQ as well as an outdoor heater so dining alfresco is always an option. The living area has high ceilings, plenty of light and views of the garden. We love the tie-dyed pouf and cushions, the spacious kids room and the garden, with plenty of space to play and relax.

I am a mom who actively juggles looking after three children while trying to keep my event planning business going. As a family we are PASSIONATE about traveling and always planning our next holiday. With our family in Australia, Thailand & Hawaii our trips are usually long ones and we're excited to open up our home to other adventurous people while we're away. We are both very picky people and look for a particular look and feel when searching for accommodations. We expect nothing less from our guests and believe you will find a stay at our home to be just the perfect dose of home, hotel and B&B.

We had a fabulous time at this gorgeous family home. We have stayed in many places on holiday and this is one of the best properties we have had the pleasure of staying in. A stunning family home, packed with toys for the children and with a beautiful kitchen and lounge for the adults. Based in Rockridge, a very upscale area of Oakland, we used the BART to get into San Francisco most days and found that easy and quick. Lots of supermarkets and restaurants in the area. Tracy was superb to deal with, despite being on holiday herself at the time. A genuinely exceptional experience.

Oakland, California

Culture, countryside and a cute 50's theme park

San Francisco’s biggest port and the third largest city in the Bay Area, Oakland is big and diverse. Spend a calming morning down at Lake Merritt, boating, feeding ducks or walking around the water, then get hands on at the Chabot Space and Science Center in the afternoon. Take a nature trek in the hills, then return to the city center for people watching, coffee and shopping in Jack London Square. Visit Children’s Fairyland with your tots, a theme park dating to the 1950s, or use the city as a base to explore the wider area, from the beautiful countryside of rural California to the sightseeing spots of San Francisco.
