Perks for the Parents

This lovely Oud West residence is ideal for a family stay in the city, with a large garden and the Vondelpark a short walk away. It has a fully equipped open plan kitchen, so kids can play while you are cooking. The stylish bathroom has a tub and walk-in shower. Enjoy your cup of coffee or glass of wine on the wooden bench in front of the house in the sun. The garden has a table and benches to enjoy dinner outside and a lovely lounge set to relax in the summer. The garden room has a desk to work at and a comfy chair to read a book. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants, coffee places and bars in this neighborhood.

Why Kids Love it

There is a separate playroom filled with toys, dressing up clothes and books for kids under 10. Kids can play with Lego, start a shop or be a chef in their own kitchen. The kids rooms are bright and colourful. The garden has a swing, vegetable garden and plenty of outside toys. There are also plenty of wheeled toys, such as a bike, 3 wheeler, skateboard and mopeds. There is a big playground around the corner and the Vondelpark is a 5-minute walk away. For smaller children, there is a stroller, travel crib and 2 Stokke high chairs available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The apartment is laid out over 2 floors with a private entrance; there are neighbors in the upstairs apartment with their own entrance. There is a spiral staircase from the ground floor to the upper floor and a stair gate is available. Paid parking is possible nearby, but with reliable public transport options, car rental is not essential. The sofa bed in the playroom can sleep a further 2 guests.

About the Location

In the lively Old West area of the city, much of Amsterdam is just a short (direct) tram ride or walk away. It is a little more urban and edgy than some of the south Amsterdam districts. The Vondelpark is 5 minutes’ walk away, the Museum Quarter is a 15-minute walk and there are shopping streets, cafés, restaurants, a market, a cinema and a library in the neighborhood. Schiphol airport is 13km away.

Accommodation Details

This 2-floor apartment has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The ground floor has a living room, open kitchen, semi-open play room and open study room. The first floor has 3 bedrooms and a large bathroom. The master bedroom has a double/fullsize bed. The second bedroom has a twin bed which can be turned into a double (1.60m) bed. The third room is reached through the master bedroom and has a loft bed (and if necessary a travel crib on request) in it. There is 1 bathroom with a bathtub, rain shower and toilet. The garden is large by Amsterdam standards and includes a swing, table and benches for dinner (seating 6) and an outdoor sofa for relaxing. There is a bench out in front of the house for morning sun and people watching.

Style Notes

Bright and modern, the residence dates from the early 1900s but has been completely modernized. Furnishings are modern mixed with vintage; the spacious, open stylish black kitchen is fully equipped and has a large family dinner table with 2 Stokke chairs for little ones. We love the lovely light garden room with an aqua-colored display cupboard with collectibles from many travels and an antique Louis Seize armchair to relax in.

We are a family with two children (Olivier 8 and Sophia 5) and love living in Amsterdam, but also have a holiday house on the coast - which is where we go when you rent our house :) Both my husband, Daan and I are entrepreneurs.

We had a perfect stay ar Emma‘s house. Our kids loved the toys there. It is very good with young or older kids. The neighborhood is so nice with a playground right next to the house and the Vondelpark just five minutes to walk. Emma was very nice with check in and out suitable to our airport times. I can totally recommend there house and we will definitely come again. Thank you for a wonderful time!

This was the perfect location for my small family in Amsterdam. Walking distance from good restaurants, the tram, and Vondel Park. An added bonus was the playground a few steps away. Emma was a wonderful host who was always available and pure joy to rent from. You would be hard pressed to find a better location in Amsterdam. Thank you again, Emma!

Fantastic stay in Amsterdam. Emma couldn’t have been more helpful, she even offered her babysitter one evening. House is in a fab location, close to the tram but also close enough to walk into the city through the park. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much to Emma and her family for letting us stay in their lovely home. It was perfectly kitted out for our young family (a 3 year old and 9 month old) who loved all the toys, and we particularly appreciated the open plan living and great decor. Emma helpfully highlighted nearby supermarkets, restaurants, parks and all the things that made our stay so much easier. We'd highly recommend staying here!

We had a wonderful stay at Emma's home. It is gorgeous, filled with toys that our girls loved and was warm and inviting. The neighborhood is also ideal with tons of restaurants, playgrounds, shops, markets, cute areas to walk and a bike rental store a few blocks away. Super convenient to public transportation and the Vondelpark. We rented bikes with seats for our kids and rode them from Oud-West all over the city. We couldn't have been happier - we felt so lucky to have found this place for our vacation in Amsterdam!

Our stay at the Eerste Helmersstraat Residence was a dream! The apartment is in a fantastic location with connection to the tram not even three minutes away and Vondelpark about a five minute walk. Our 1 year old daughter loved all of the new toys and playing the backyard. As parents, we loved the blackout curtains in the room our daughter stayed and enjoying a glass of wine in the backyard as she slept. We didn't get to meet Emma in person, but her lovely friend, Q, gave us a tour. Both Emma and Q were easily accessible throughout the trip by phone and email. I highly recommend the Eerste Helmersstraat Residence to all future families and hope to come back one day!

We loved our stay at this wonderful home. It was perfect for our family of four, including 2 young boys, aged 2.5 and 9 months. Emma was wonderful in putting out age appropriate toys, setting up bedding, and having high chairs and strollers available for us to use. It is a great location, 2 blocks from Vondelpark, close to the tram, and easy walking distance to the museums and city center. There's great take-out options for nights when you want to rest at home, and a grocery store close by. Would highly recommend!

We had an amazing visit! Emma couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, and we deeply appreciate that she trusted us with her incredible home. I didn't think it would be possible, but the flat is even more stunning in person. The neighbourhood is lovely, and the flat is perfectly located near Vondelpark, a cute local playground, easy transportation, and convenient shops. We visited with our 2 and 4 year old boys, and they were delighted with the extensive collection of toys. I'd also recommend this flat to any cooks. We are not skilled in this area unfortunately, but the kitchen was beautifully equipped.

Our stay could not have been lovelier. The home was clean, more than comfortable, and suited our needs really well. In fact, my son declared that his favorite thing about Amsterdam was the room he had stayed in! The family was super-helpful in terms of letting us know favorite breakfast spots in the neighborhood and met us on our first morning to walk us through everything we needed to know. And the location was perfect--close to transportation, to the park, and to a wonderful food hall where we enjoyed a number of meals. We LOVED our stay at the Eerste Helmersstraat residence, and look forward to going back soon!

The apartment was absolutely ideal for our short stay in Amsterdam. Our children loved the plethora of toys, and we made good use of the scooters in the nearby Vondelpark. The location is perfect for exploring central Amsterdam - close to excellent tram links and amenities such as supermarket, butchers, bakers, restaurants etc.. All in all we were very impressed, and I would recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to stay in Amsterdam with a young family

Our stay in Emma's home was lovely! The home was clean, spacious and comfortable. It was close to the tram stop, with easy access (10-15 minutes) to the city centre. Over the course of our stay, she was very available to answer questions we had. Fantastic place to stay - highly recommended!

A stunning home that was both luxurious for us and child friendly and comfortable for our children. We were instantly relaxed as the amenities such as a lovely restaurant and supermarket and park were so close by. It was very easy to get around Amsterdam with 2 small children (aged 5 and 3) and we had plenty of fascinating things to do - beautiful home, beautiful city and incredibly friendly people - we will definitely come again.

Oud-West, Amsterdam

Handsome houses and street markets

This area of the city is 10-minutes to the east of downtown and is known for its handsome houses, busy shopping streets and street markets. It's close to the Vondelpark and is a great place for a family, with good restaurants and terraces for people-watching. It's also known for having the highest concentration of coffee bars in the city.
