Perks for the Parents

This 4-level house dating from the 1890s has a bathroom with Turkish steam bath, separate playroom and wonderful garden. Stylish and laid out with a large dining area, second floor playroom, master bedroom in the attic with exposed beams and separate bathrooms for parents and children, it is a great family space. The desirable neighborhood adds to the family appeal with food halls, terraces, bars, restaurants, vintage shops and galleries just around the corner.

Why Kids Love it

There is a wonderful garden complete with a swing, sand box and climbing wall. The playroom has ample toys, books, a swing seat and dress-up clothes. There are 3 children’s bedrooms with colorful decorations plus a separate children’s bathroom with a large tub. Two high chairs and a crib are available. There is a toddler pool and play area across the street and a large playing field and children's farm with goats, pigs and sheep around the corner.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. The property is a traditional Dutch townhouse and has steep stairs, but stair gates for young children can be added on request. Children should always be supervised on the balconies; the doors to the balconies can be locked. One of the children’s bedrooms has a high sleeper, ideal for those aged 6+. The owners have 2 friendly cats, Elvis and Otje; guests are asked to kindly feed them during their stay. There are paid parking places by the house and a parking garage; car rental is not essential with good transit links and walkability in the area. There are plenty of bike rental firms in the area.

About the Location

The residence is in the family friendly Oud West part of the city. It is 20 minutes’ walk from the Dam Square and the museum area. It is an easy 15 minutes from either Schiphol Airport (by train/tram) or the Central Station (tram). The area itself is hip and upcoming; the house is right across the street from the popular Foodhallen (an indoor food market), a cinema, restaurants and bars. There is also a wonderful daily produce market across the street along with a play area and children's farm.

Accommodation Details

This 4 bedroom house is set over 4 stories. On the ground level there is a separate bathroom and a kitchen area. French doors lead to the garden with swing, sand box and terrace. The second floor has a living room, French doors to a balcony and a colorful playroom. On the third level there are 3 children’s bedrooms and a children’s bathroom with bathtub, walk-in shower, toilet and a double sink. One bedroom has a high sleeper bed and if needed an extra twin mattress underneath it. This room has French doors to a balcony. The second bedroom has a twin bed that can be converted to a smaller toddler bed. The third bedroom also has twin bed and space for a crib if needed. The top floor has a master bedroom with kingsize bed, a bathroom with toilet and Turkish steam bath shower, and a washer/dryer.

Style Notes

Modern bohemian. This house, dating to 1890, has been completely renovated to create a large and spacious family townhouse split over 4 floors (unusual in Amsterdam). The house has featured in several style magazines. The style is bohemian/industrial with black and white backgrounds combined with bright colors and items curated from world travels. We love the bright and joyful kids bedrooms, with accent wallpaper and bright furniture, the hanging swing in the playroom and the sleek and sophisticated master bedroom in the eaves of the house with high ceilings and exposed beams.

Hi, we are a family of 5 (and two cats..). With our two boys of 10 and 6 and your girl of 4 we live in Amsterdam-West, a creative, upcoming and relaxed neighbourhood that we enjoy very much. We love travelling, reading books, socializing with friends and sailing with our boat along the Amsterdam canals or nature surrounding the city.
